A couple of questions re jerseys

Post by PITJ »

Hello,

In around 01/02 I recall Leinster having to change to their white alternative jerseys at half-time in a game (I think it was Lansdowne Road), can anybody confirm which match it was?

Also, did Leinster always wear blue or did they have a different colour in times past? Thanks

Don't recall the half-time jersey change (but I missed the first two months of that 01/02 season), but fairly sure Leinster have worn blue since the 1880's. They did wear a red alternate jersey in the HEC semi-final against Cardiff in 1995 (imagine Leinster having a red alternate jersey now???????????), and wore green as part of some environmental promotion in a pre-season friendly about 5/6 years ago.

Traditionally Leinster used to wear green afaik. Blue only came into it in the late 70s.

They've also worn yellow as an alternative strip from time to time.

No they didn't. You're talking about GAA. Leinster have worn blue as its primary colour since the beginning.

Lovell rugby showing this as a new item for just short of £90  , hardly a dramatic departure from last season.

Anyone aware of anything nicer for this season?

Less a dramatic departure, more the exact same shirt as last season. AFAIK the only matchday shirt (as opposed to training or supporters jerseys) changing this season will be the European one - its done two seasons.

I got it for half price a while back on Lovell. Just CCC renewing stock and returning it to RRP.

For some reason, I think it was against Glasgow, who had shown up in blue too, but Inpho and Sportsfile only show pics of blue v blue. Maybe I imagined it

Just asking as there's a rugby version of the GAA jerseys site Pride In The Jersey in the works!

I can remember that happening, although I thought it was against Cardiff and around 04/05, I could be wrong on that though. But definitely remember Leinster having to switch to a white jersey at half time as our opposition arrived in blue too, I know I saw it on TV and I thought it was in the RDS.

Maybe not, I'm not sure of my dates at all. I can remember it happening in a match but I was only starting to get into rugby at the time so I honestly couldn't be sure when or where it happened

We won a magners league in the rds in 07/08. 06/07 was in donnybrook, but we played HEC games and at least a few derbies in the rds in 05/06 iirc

Yep, played our three home games in the HEC plus a couple of league games (Cardiff and Munster) in the RDS in 05/06. Permanent move was at the start of 07/08.

Home and away retained. Just Euro Champions Elite Cup jersey will be new if there is one (of either).

Oh really? So the white lines will still be chalked in across the front? Ah well. Already 6 years.......looks like it is rising further.
