Scarlets v. Leinster
A new season has crept up again, thank jaysus.
Seemingly Davies & Barclay not avail for Scarlets.
A win to kick off the season would be huge, considering our recent first game results.
Could we potentially be looking at something like:
McGrath
Dundon/Cronin
Moore/Bent
Roux
Toner/Leo
Ruddock
Jenno/Ryan
Murphy
Reddan
Gopperth
Luke/Hudson
Reid
Macken

I'd be happy enough with that team. I'd defo start Leo tho.

Probably go a bit cautious. With returning players on the bench. Have a feeling that Luke may fall victim to "week too soon" syndrome

Re: Scarlets v. Leinster
Will be a tough match for Leinster and I'll be interested to see what MOC does particularly in the three quarters and at second row.
Scarlets don't have that many top players anymore so the bulk of their first choice side will be available to them this weekend. Davies and Barclay not available but nearly everyone else is so they are likely to have about 10 of their HEC side on the field. It will be a huge ask for the Leinster side to go there and get a result. We'll need to use our set piece and Gopperth. Keep things very tight and use our maul.
Scarlets will be their same old selves. If we let them open up the game and play it loose, we'll get a hiding. Keep it in the pack and have a strong set piece and Gopperth should steer us into a good position with a chance of victory. Reddan's return is huge for us.

Re: Scarlets v. Leinster
The scarlets will be pretty much at full strength bar davies/Barclay, for your sake I hope they play Phil John at loose head and kristian Phillips on the wing. One can't scrummage and the other can't tackle (actually both can't do either!)
They don't have a genuine open side either so you should do well in that area and their back 3 is no where near as strong with North feby and stoddart all gone so I don't think they play it as wide as they have in other seasons plus they will proably play shingle at 12 which means they now have a decent goal kicker and won't be as reliant on scoring trys.Given the fact you are missing so many of your first team and they are not it will be a very tough evening and you have to fancy a home victory.
Good luck and I hope you can pull of the win
Any of you coming over for the game?

As an Ospreys fan would it not be better for your team if the Turks took points off us? Not coming over until HC time personally.

Not really your going to be in the play offs regardless of this result. We have more chance of taking the play off spot of them.
I'm away in Leeds this weekend otherwise I'd have gone down and cheered for the boys in blue!
Try and catch up with you guys when your for the HC game, show you the sights of Swansea town!

What's the story with Darce?
Suppose we'll get our first squad update at 3pm today?

Re: Scarlets v. Leinster
if Priestland kicking theres always hope
Williams (boo), Philips, Williams, Maule, ?, Priestland, Davies, Jones, Owen, Manu, Snyman, Earle, Turnbull, Shingler, McCusker
Big centres running at Reid aside backline not much of a threat without Davies and North
scrums could go our way and we both have good backrows
Sounds like a truism but IMO will largely come down to who gets/keeps most possession

Re: Scarlets v. Leinster
The Leinster squad trained in UCD on Monday morning ahead of the big season RaboDirect PRO12 kick off against the Scarlets in Parc y Scarlets on Friday night (KO: 7.05pm, LIVE BBC Wales)...
There were no significant injury concerns for the province following the friendly against Northampton Saints and the Leinster management are hopeful that some more internationals will come into the frame for the trip to Llanelli.
Ireland scrum-half Eoin Reddan made his first start since March and his next appearance will be his 80th in Leinster colours. Reddan could be joined by the likes of Luke Fitzgerald, Kevin McLaughlin and Devin Toner. Both Sean Cronin and Dave Kearney both came through their first workouts of the campaign at the weekend.
It is likely that a number of younger players will again have the chance to impress, with the team set to be announced at noon on Thursday.

They are also complaining about not having J Davies. Expectations are so different. We would not even dream of expecting any Lions before game 4 or 5scarlet fever wrote: Maule is having a scan on his knee this week by the sounds of it so not looking good for him for this weekend, options are Warren, Shingler or Owen, personally I'd play Shingler 12 and Scott 13.

Sounds hopeful. Based on that I'd say we'll see
McGrath
Dundon
Moore
Toner
Leo
Locky
Jennings
Murphy
Reddan
Jimmy
Fitz
Reid
Macken
McF
DK
Incidentally, did Ferg get any game time on Friday? Don't recall seeing him?

He was sitting in front of me, with Drico, Darce, Kev, Leo and Luke. So No. He was named on the bench originally though.AdamK wrote: Incidentally, did Ferg get any game time on Friday? Don't recall seeing him?

Re: Scarlets v. Leinster
No mention of Darce there, odd. Disappointing too, was really hoping he'd be ready from the very start of the season which would be a great boost in general but particularly for Macken.
Re: Scarlets v. Leinster
With Bent having damaged a nerve and out for a few weeks, I think it's all but guaranteed that Moore and Furlong are going to be the tighthead options for the opening couple of games. Exciting times.

shingler will be playing and taking the kicks ( I guess he will play 12 with owen at 15 or owen will be 12 and he will be 15 either way Williams will be on the wing) Maule is injured so I doubt hell play. Lee will start at tighthead with adriannse on the bench I doubt manu will even make the 23

Why do we get a different story (or less detail) on the Leinster site?indo wrote:“Kevin McLaughlin, Devin Toner, Gordon D’Arcy, Luke Fitzgerald and Fergus McFadden are all back available and could come in this weekend.”
Michael Bent is not available after sustaining nerve damage in his neck during training last week and might not be available for a couple of weeks.
“Michael took a knock in training. The only information we have is that he has a nerve problem and don’t know how long he’ll be out for,” Ritchie Murphy added.

So much for bringing Furlong along slowly!ceemec wrote:With Bent having damaged a nerve and out for a few weeks, I think it's all but guaranteed that Moore and Furlong are going to be the tighthead options for the opening couple of games. Exciting times.
I'm delighted they'll both be involved though.
Re: Scarlets v. Leinster
Ross is obviously still rested then? At least until the Ospreys game
Re: Scarlets v. Leinster
I'd be surprised if we saw him before the Glasgow game. He started both internationals over the summer and started 28 games last season. He appeared in the third round of the league last season. That's the earliest I'd expect him this season also. At his age, I think he might be better off with an extra couple of weeks off.johng wrote:Ross is obviously still rested then? We might have our work cut out for us against the Ospreys though. Hibbard is already back for them. No sign of Adam Jones yet but he could well return for our game. We'll need a strong front row.
