That's twice Joe has dropped the "Yo" now. A great coach and a full-on Gangsta too!

Nothing against JS. Great coach - best any province in Ireland's ever had - but every time I see this thread title, I think: A Masterbater at work.

I think you're a bit confused there mate, Joe's surname is Schmidt not Bates or Baites for that matter.Apocrypha wrote:Nothing against JS. Great coach - best any province in Ireland's ever had - but every time I see this thread title, I think: A Masterbater at work.

British leader Winston Churchill on dinner:
"Well, dinner would have been splendid if the wine had been as cold as the soup, the beef as rare as the service, the brandy as old as the fish, and the maid as willing as the Duchess."

I would like to thank Joe for being so good at his job I rarely felt the need to post here during the season! Reduced my online procrastination by about 30%!!

It's a good point Tate, if you compared to how angsty everyone get's in relation to Kidney's non performance and blinkered logic, it really is a pleasure watching Joe at work. the use of 49 players in Pro12 this season signifies a coach who not only believes in the young players but who gives them ample opportunity to develop in a positive and open environment. Contrast with kidney's selection of some of the young guys in the 6 Nations squad, they were blatantly there to hold tackle bags.
Re: Joe Schmidt - A Master at work
He obviously puts a lot in to the job. Was comparing a recent pic with one after the Clermont quarter final at the RDS and he isn't as fresh-faced as he was then. It must be nice having a good squad, but I'd say the anxiety levels are still astronomical.

It will be very difficult to keep joe after his contract runs out.

Re: Joe Schmidt - A Master at work
Yeah certainly defence coach, maybe backs too, but I've high hopes BOD will remain on as coach at Leinster after retiring (presumably after next season). He has so much top level experience, success, worked under some great coaches and has such a rugby brain, it would be great to line him up as potential coach in long term (if he's up to it).slum wrote:It will be very difficult to keep joe after his contract runs out.

A big question of Joe's abilities will be at the "launch" of our new season coming up.
With the signing of a big name second row more than likely lined up (probably All-Black man mountain Boric, who's out of contract and out of favour with Kiwi's), and with the massively promising Denton signed, the likelyhood that Browne will still be with us next season (imo - and after a great first season cut short!) and the fact that Toner has emerged as a great operator and rightly banging down the door to be a starter, I think it's fair to say that Cullens place can no longer be assured.
Despite maximum effort, his ability to influence the game has been in decline imo, and I think he would better serve us as a leader off the bench and behind the scenes, and perhaps a new partnership needs to be established next season, will Joe make the big call by dropping Cullen as captain (probably to be replaced by Heaslip) and potentially dropping him from the first team too? If you reckon it's fair to say Cullen may not be in a position to hold the captaincey any more, do you think Joe will make the call?
I think treating Cullen as an automatic starter next season would be a mistake, and I also think it's time for a new leader on the pitch, and I think Heaslip is the type of guy who'd revell with the responsability and rise to the challange and up his game considerably to lead by example.
