"Meanwhile, lock Tom Ahern was ruled out of Friday’s Ireland ‘A’ game against the All Blacks XV, as he waits to meet with the specialist for a shoulder injury sustained against Leinster. The Waterford native is expected to be out of action for a spell."

I am not going to get into the whole "are there no sub-editors in newspapers these days?" line of ranting, because it's common knowledge that there hasn't been for years. ROC is an experienced journalist and should have his own editorial standards. This is a criticism of writing rather than rugby knowledge or opinion, so feel free to skip over.

The sentence in bold is just cr@p. Cr*p writing, cr*p journalism, it's just complete cr*p. What's 'a spell'? A week? Two weeks? Six weeks? Three months? Six months? Nobody knows how long he is going to be out for: ROC wrote himself, in the previous sentence, that Ahern hasn't seen the specialist. So expectations mentioned in the last sentence are based on something that hasn't happened yet that will result in Ahern undergoing/not undergoing surgery and him being unavailable for selection for an unknown amount of time. Jesus Christ.

This comes on the back of some other cracking Indo tweets in the recent past from Cian Tracey re: the Emerging Ireland squad – following their tour, they were expected to return to Ireland "in the coming days".

He knew that they weren't going to stay out there for a six week holiday or permanently emigrate, but he wasn't able to put his finger on when they would be back. Phoning the IRFU press officer for flight information would have been a huge ask! It was a big enough deal that he wrote two articles about how badly Munster were affected by missing players on this tour, but would said players be back to make training on Thursday before their nect match? Shure they'll be back "in the coming days". Tuesday? Wednesday? Thursday? Friday?

And "Evan O'Connell is highly rated in Munster" – another cracker. No, they actually think he's sh*t. They brought him into their academy because they have fond memories of his uncle. For f*ck's sake.

To conclude: you don't need to write pointless sentences. If the sentence doesn't say something informative, if it doesn't explain something, if it doesn't express tone or act as a device, don't f*cking leave it in. To quote Vincent Hanna, don't waste my MOTHERF*CKING TIME.

Gerry attempts to redeem himself this morning by headlining that Conor Murray will not only collect his 100th cap this weekend but do so by leading out the team as a starter.

This (apparent) decision is partially based on JGP's absence due to injury from any game time so far this season.

Whilst there is little doubt that Murray deserves his 100th cap and will probably rise to the occasion as he has so often in the past, it is a somewhat strange decision, coupled with the selection of Casey as Captain of the A team playing on Friday evening.

Ross Moloney inclusion in the A Squad, alongside the likely surplus or either Baird or Conan among the senior team Squad makes for some mixed messages in the weekend selections. These may be clarified by a rumoured withdrawal or two among the two teams before they take the field.

Two good contests to look forward to, but it won't stop the speculation about the respective selections.

Matt Williams reminiscing today about the great SA outhalves of yesteryear like Naas Bother. 🫣

"The great Springboks outhalves of the past such as Naas Bother, Joel Stransky, Jannie de Beer, Francois Steyn and Hendre Pollard have all been valued for their kicking abilities, not for their creativity in attack."

Dear God! Today's Rugby Weekly Extra podcast is titled "Hugh Cahill: A life calling rugby" - a 40+ minute chat between Garry Doyle and Dave's distant cousin.
I think I'll give it a miss... or I might punish myself and give it a listen so I can rant a bit

Sounds good. I mean the title does make it sound like Cahill is finished or soon to be calling rugby after a lifetime doing so.

I just hope they take some time to reflect on Munster's successes and the formative native of them to everything in Irish rugby now.

I'm at work and I can't listen to a podcast.

Can someone please tell me that my fears from reading the headline are meaningless.
