Thornley is so far up Kidney's hole, it's ridiculous.
He was quick to blast O'Sullivan in 2008 for doing the same thing Kidney is doing now!

The situations are hardly equivalent.

In 2008 we came off the back of an unbelievably poor performance at the World Cup.

This year we have an ultimately disappointing exit at the World Cup that was preceded by some very strong performances that were widely applauded in international circles.

This year we had a gimme of a group. 2007 we had a group that we would have had to seriously overperform relative to expectations in order to get out of. A QF wasn't an issue this time round, to be fair we managed to get a supposedly easier team in it. Then we seriously underperformed. This world cup was not a disaster, but it wasn't that good. We beat an understrength Oz (great performance) and put Italy to the sword (a bit like we did to them in the '07 6N). We didn't actually face a team of the calibre of '07 Argentina or France.

I can't agree.

We were also awful against Namibia and Georgia in 2007 and never really looked like troubling the Argentinian and French teams.

We did what we had to this time around v USA and Russia and the only negative in the group was a failure to get a BP v the States. We had two stand out performances in this World Cup, we had none four years ago. We beat the side that ultimately came third in this World Cup. We failed to beat the side that came fourth last time around. The very fact that we are lamenting a failed chance to get to a World Cup semi-final and a shout at a final place shows how much more successful this performance was compared to 2007.

Oh yeah, we were awful against Namibia and Georgia we can't whitewash how bad that was. This year we never looked like troubling Wales though.

Yeah, we beat Australia. Lets forget every other match we played in 2011 and use only that match as the basis for our performance.

Ah now, we all know that the only important game this year was against England. Sure, once we beat them isn't all okay with Irish rugby?

Jaysus

The original point was that Kidney was being praised for what O'Sullivan was criticised for in 2008. Does anyone really see the situations as the same?

Jaysus, Gerry must have hit the bar at half-time if he didn't notice Mike Ross coming on at half-time! :?

That's poor work by Gerry, A) not noticing or hearing the sub being announced, B) not noticing Ross playing the second half and C) not noticing Hagan keeping warm behind the posts for most of the second half!

Don't know about Gerry but I thought I saw Bono in Bewleys after the game necking a few pints. Looked like he was on his way to becoming "Hors de combat".
"sh!t like this happens. We had to believe it" Jonathan Sexton on coming back from 16 points down at half time to win 2nd Heineken Cup

He laid on a masterclass in bullshit in his defense of the DOC selection.

He's a strong man! Eh.....Ryan isn't?

He knows the defensive system. Eh......Ryan doesn't?

He's a better scrummaging lock and we need him cause the Welsh successfully targeted our scrum in the quarter-final and they will look to do it again. Eh, one minute....... DOC played in that game didn't he?

McDevitt asked harder questions than normal but he doesn't have the rugby smarts to know when Gerry is fobbing him off with nonsense.

Dont know about that.
Thought he really went at the great one about his criticism of EoS but never has a bad word on kidney.
He asked the question a number of times
