Leinster v Glasgow Thread

Post by Donny B. »

The Leinster squad completed their first pitch session of the week in UCD on Monday afternoon ahead of Saturday evening's RaboDirect PRO12 clash against the Glasgow Warriors in the RDS (KO: 6pm, note that this game will not be televised*)...

There was mixed news on the injury front with Ireland back Luke Fitzgerald expected to be in contention for selection for the visit of the Scottish side after sitting out last week’s game to recover fully from a knock to the knee against Ospreys in Round 1.

Second row Steven Sykes stepped up his rehabilitation from the knee injury that he sustained in pre-season and he could come into the mix, though a decision on his availability will also be made later in the week.

Following surgery on Saturday, it has been confirmed that out-half Mat Berquist sustained a fractured patella in the 31-10 victory over the Dragons on Friday night which, it is anticipated, will rule the New Zealander out for approximately 4 months.

The team is expected to be announced on Friday at midday.

Over 14,200 tickets have been sold for Saturday’s game which will see the usual ‘Family Day’ activities and tickets are still available ONLINE HERE, Spar (Donnybrook), the Leinster Rugby Store and Ticketmaster outlets nationwide.

This is good news - rumour at the match on Friday had him not returning until December.

Looking forward to seeing Luuke back in Blue as well.

I know the world cup is on, but how can RTE and TG4 not manage to show this game between them? Anyone know if Setanta will be showing the game later?

I'm nearly certain Setanta will be showing a deferred transmission.

Can't see any listing for it on Setanta.

Just checked as far as Tuesday though and no mention of it.

And who will be providing the cameras? Setanta can only broadcast where footage exists.

Feck- I'm presuming therefore, that the broadcasters buy the option to show games but there is no compunction on them to do so. Not really good enough and it doesn't help to "grow the product" (or whatever the correct marketspeak is). I'm going to the game, but I does like to watch it afterwards to confirm my shouty biased grandstand opinions.

he was in attendance at the last game (took part in the warm-up) so presumably will be available for this weekend.
Look out Itchy, he's Irish

If this is not on TV It means the ref will need to be on top form, No video ref to go to to decide trys, no posibility of an independent citing commissioner looking at incidents after the match.

Why would there be no video ref just because no broadcaster is showing it live?

Rephrase that question to why would there be no video ref just because there won't be a full team of TV cameras at the match. What's he going to check?

Is that some sort of threat?
:?

Technically they're right. If you include the season tickets. Doesn't mean that many will turn up of course. The fact that the game won't be televised will hopefully make people make the effort and the fact that it's so easy to give your ticket away will also hopefully make sure there's another good crowd there.

Technically correct though. They have sold a minimum of 13200 odd tickets for all games this year, even before they are scheduled.

Sorry I must have missed the earlier discussion but can someone explain why a home game against decent oposition isn't being televised?

So on your assumption then there will be no vides refs at any home games for the Italian sides...Also How do Leinster TV get their highlights package?

Yes. It's not an assumption, just common sense. And from their own camera or 2 that they use for video analysis.

Good example is either of the Pre season matches. One camera for after match analysis and enough shots to make a highlights reel and but not a chance of seeing anything important.
