It says the tkts will go on sale mid April (after launching them 30/3). Can't see these selling out TBH, with the state of the economy and peoples finances...plus the distance with it being in NZ.

:D Date has been put in the calendar.

From the press release:
In Phase 1 750,000 tickets will be released through Venue Pool Packs and Team Pool Packs. Fans who apply will also have the option of adding a Quarter-final Weekend Pack in Wellington or Christchurch and/or Tickets to the Bronze Final to their application. Applications close on Friday, May 21.

The second phase will see individual tickets for all matches except the semi-finals and the Final released. This is expected to occur in August or September.

The third phase will feature a ballot system for tickets to the semi-finals and the Final. Applicants from the first two phases will receive one entry into the ballots for each ticket applied for in earlier phases.

Any remaining tickets will go on general sale in 2011.

“A range of Venue and Team Pool Pack prices and the spread of matches to 13 venues across the country from Whangarei to Invercargill aim to encourage as many fans as possible to get a taste of Rugby World Cup excitement in line with our ‘Stadium of Four Million’ philosophy,” said Martin Snedden.

“We are also introducing a payment plan to help New Zealand fans pay off their packs in monthly installments over six months.”

Honestly can't see there being a rush for these, the AB tickets are the dearest of the lot ruling out a lot of 'normal fans' in NZ as pricing is on a par with 2007 making it to expensive for locals.

With Europe still in recession can't see plane loads of people booking for something next year. I predict there will be discounting early next year by the UK based tour operators (and the irish ones piggy backing off their licences) much the same as there was for the LIons last year (and in 2005 to some extent).

And yet:
Irish Times wrote:Rugby World Cup losses could top €21m
Despite strong interest in next year’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, tournament boss Martin Snedden is still predicting a sizeable loss of over €21million.

The tournament’s organisers — a joint venture between the New Zealand Rugby Union and the government — originally estimated a loss of NZ $30million (€16.2m) but when expectations around ticket sales were downgraded it increased by a further NZ $9.3m (€5m) as the only income RNZ 2011 receives is from the sale of tickets.

Now with 85,000 match tickets sold as part of official travel packages and 50,000 fans from more than 100 countries pre-registering for venue and team pool packs, which went on global sale today, Snedden, RNZ 2011 chief executive, remains optimistic that the NZ $39.3m (€21.2m) figure will not blow out further.

“At the moment we are sitting at a projected loss of just over 39 million and I think we’re confident enough to stay there at the moment and certainly the events around the start of the ticket campaign have given us a bit of comfort there,” Snedden said, 500 days out from the start of rugby’s showpiece event.

“We will continue to evaluate the whole thing ... but we’re happy enough with where we sit at the moment.

“We know that selling 1.65 million tickets is going to be a huge challenge. But it’s really motivating when you start off the whole campaign and you get such an instant positive response.”

Fans in Wellington were able to pose with the Webb Ellis Cup today, a trophy New Zealand has not won since 1987, as the promotion for the start of phase one of the ticketing process swung into top gear.

The applications for venue and pool packs close on Friday, May 21st with individual match tickets expected to be on sale later this year. A ballot system will be used for tickets to the semi-finals and final, which will all be played at Auckland’s revamped Eden Park.

The tournament will kick off with New Zealand taking on Tonga at Eden Park on September 9th and Snedden said ensuring the ticketing programme went smoothly was a priority.

“Making sure the ticketing process goes well is a key factor for us. We’ve got to sell a bucket load of tickets. We’ve got to sell 1.65 million tickets,” he said.

“I’m not expecting to sell all of those in 2010. I would love to have the vast majority of them sold by late this year, early next year but I’m also resigned to the fact that I think we’re going to be selling tickets right through the whole process and during the tournament itself.”

Fans apply for over 600,000 RWC 2011 tickets
(RNZ 2011) Wednesday 2 June 2010

PrintEmail

Applications have been made for over 600,000 tickets in Phase 1• 165,000 applications for ticket packs
• Eden Park Packs oversubscribed
• Fans to find out success by early July

Fans from around the world have applied for more than 600,000 tickets during the first of three major ticketing sales phases for Rugby World Cup 2011 (RWC 2011).

"This is a great start and is clear evidence that both New Zealand and overseas fans will strongly support this Tournament," said Martin Snedden, CEO for Tournament Organiser Rugby New Zealand 2011 (RNZ 2011).

Applications for Venue and Team Pool Packs, which closed on May 21, totalled 125,000. In addition, 40,000 applications were received for the Quarter-final Weekend Packs in Wellington and Christchurch and the Bronze Final.

"Fans are realising how special this Tournament will be in New Zealand and this bodes well for future ticketing phases and for the event itself."

Overseas demand has been strong with the most popular Team Pool Packs (aside from New Zealand), being England, Ireland, France, South Africa and Australia.

"There has also been strong demand for Quarter-final Weekends Packs in both Wellington and Christchurch. Demand for tickets at venues aside from Eden Park, has been solid and in line with expectations.

"There has been oversubscription for the Eden Park Venue Packs and also the New Zealand Team Pack. As well, there has been some specific seating category oversubscription within some other Venue and Team Packs."

RNZ 2011 is currently processing applications.

In cases where demand exceeds availability, a randomisation process will determine success.

Successful applicants will have credit card payments deducted over the next month. All applicants successful or otherwise will, by early July, have received written advice as to the outcome of their respective applications.

"It will not be possible to satisfy demand from all fans who applied in Phase 1," said Martin Snedden.

"Unfortunately some people will be unsuccessful and, no doubt, will be disappointed. Where possible we will be going back to unsuccessful applicants with second chance pack offers."

The second phase of RWC 2011 ticketing, involving the sale of individual match tickets (excluding semi-finals and the Final) will most likely begin in September. Details of this phase will to be confirmed in July. The third phase - a ballot for tickets to the semi-finals and the Final - will take place in early 2011.

Despite what the blurb from the RWC people says, don't think 600,000 is actually a lot of tickets sold in the first sale. Considering each pool pack contained 4 tkts and some people would have added on a QF ticket theres what maybe 120,000 individuals who have booked tickets?

No real suprise that the Eden Park packs have been over subscribed, Auckland being the biggest city in the country and the gateway to the country.

Likewise for the All Blacks packs (despite them being a ripoff in NZD terms).
