Ireland v Italy in Rome - 15 March 2025

Post by Colmodon »

I've never done the trip to Rome before and am considering it next year. Anyone any tips?

I remember from looking at it last year that flights on a Friday - Sunday from Dublin seemed to be absolutely mental. Is that always the way? Are tickets generally OK and any good accomodation options?

I have general tips... Not specific to 6N Rome experience.

Flights always get hiked once 6N weekends are announced. Keep an eye out cause you often see extra flights put on around autumn and you can get a bit more reasonable.

The other option is to look at flights into cities on a direct train connection. Works well for Italy and France where the trains work well.

Hotels in Rome should be fine. Unlike Cardiff or Edinburgh, the 6N games don't really move the hotel prices. Nothing to lose booking them now with fully cancelable rates. You can always switch to a better option if you get one.

Someone on here might know Rome better. I've been once or twice and the only thing I'd say is that there are a number of different districts... A bit like Paris in that sense. So might be worth asking around what part of the city is best

I like your right leg. A lovely leg for the role.
I've got nothing against your right leg.
The trouble is ... neither have you

Don't rent a car.

The tourist stuff at the Vatican is closed on Sundays.

Went out a day early the season before last and went with Swiss air via Zurich which was significantly cheaper than direct from Dublin to Rome. Tickets should be easy enough to get the website is called ticketone

I've done it a few times. Rome is a brilliant city to visit.

- you can get a 4 or 5 star hotel for 3 star prices in the centre of town in feb/early march.

- highly recommend doing the history walking tour. Starts at the Spanish steps and it's superb. an english speaking historian does it. It lasts for a few hours.

- brace yourself for the friendliness of Italian fans. they formed a guard of honour for us in the route up to the stadium..many handing out beers, face painting etc. fantastic atmosphere. great for kids.

Seriously tempted. A few tings to get sorted before the end of the month, car insurance, dog insurance, garden, painters etc but if there's a few spare farthings in the bucket...

Bought two tickets there the other day, unbelievable that you can get into a 6 Nations game for less than thirty-five quid.

Seriously debating this. A lot of expenses at the moment but Rome is a fantastic venue. The only real debate at the end of the day is wife or girlfriend? 😜

Bring both of them, it's a great city - they'll love it.

Are you mental? Then I'd have to listen to both of them.

Fly with the girlfriend to Dubai and on to Rome from there to meet the wife that I send via Estonia on Ryanair?

I'm bringing the wife, I'm afraid. Ordinarily I would suggest I could take the girlfriend off your hands for the weekend.

There's a very 'Benny Hill' type of answer to that but I won't go there...

Yeah, the b$&%@#ds at Wizz Air changed my flight from Friday night to Friday morning, so I can't now make it....

2 x tickets available there, face value obviously, 60 Euro.

Any takes, give me a shout.
