Celtic have suspended Aiden McGeady for two weeks following a breach of club discipline.
The Hoops winger has also been fined two weeks' wages in the wake of his misdemeanour.
It is believed that the Republic of Ireland international is paying the price for a weekend spat with manager Gordon Strachan.
The pair are said to have been involved in a heated dressing room debate immediately after Celtic's 1-1 draw with Hearts at Parkhead on Saturday.
Both men had been quick to play down any suggestion of a rift in the wake of the incident, but action has now been taken against McGeady.
The 22-year-old reigning Scottish Player of the Year will now be forced to sit out the club's next two fixtures, ruling him out of an Old Firm clash with Rangers on 27th December.
It remains to be seen whether Tuesday's suspension proves to the beginning of the end for McGeady's time with the SPL champions but, with speculation already suggesting that he could be on his way in the New Year transfer window, his future is likely to come under increased scrutiny in the coming weeks.
