Re: The State of Rugby Union as a Popular Sport
I couldn't agree more, it can be a grossly disproportionate price to pay for what is very frequently just a matter of the ref's interpretation.Ruckedtobits wrote: ↑October 22nd, 2023, 8:24 am No scrum penalty outside the 22m line should be kickable.

Re: RWC 2023 Ireland v NZ
Still haven't been able to watch it back. I've nothing but admiration for the team which is comfortably the best Ireland has ever produced. On another day they win that match, even allowing for the absolute excellence of the NZ performance. It struck me at the time that the pressure the team was und...

Re: The State of Rugby Union as a Popular Sport
I think there's a major problem here alright. I remember a conversation I had years ago with a friend of mine who was brought up in football-loving RIngsend. He's a huge sports fan and wanted to like rugby but he always made the point that the sport was ruined for the casual supporter by the margin ...

Re: RWC 2023: The Other Teams
Were certain infringements allocated to Reynaud this weekend and others to Barnes? The two versions of the game are very different. I was about to say the same thing. Reynal also applying much stricter standards to Fiji than England at the breakdown. Honestly I despair of the refereeing inconsisten...

I'll second that. A long road ahead but I'm sure they'll grasp the opportunity.

Re: RWC 2023 Ireland v NZ
I have slight concerns about Crowley. His cross kick against Scotland was a thing of beauty but he was fairly underwhelming otherwise. I wouldn't want him on the pitch too long - or at all if the game is in the balance. Of course I hope he proves me wrong!

Re: RWC : Ireland v Scotland
Another match against a side with Finn Russell in it, and I'm still of the opinion that despite all the hype and flash moments I'm glad he doesn't play for us. He's not as good a player as he or the media thinks he is, and he doesn't have the temperament to win when things are tough. Bath have paid...

Re: RWC : Ireland v Scotland
That’s spot on Jezzer. He’s the big match player, the test match animal, and as you point out the clutch point in the match player. He very much does the seen work. It’s highlight reel stuff! When he was much, much younger the aggressiveness worked against him, he’d be down the wrong end having a f...

Re: RWC: Ireland v. South Africa SAT 23 SEP 20.00
Still processing that match. What's so impressive about this Irish team, apart from the obvious skills, is the mental strength consistently on display. This has very rarely been a feature of Irish teams in the past and at times I have difficulty seeing it for what it is. I'd sometimes put a good res...

Re: RWC: Ireland v. South Africa SAT 23 SEP 20.00
The passage around when we turned them over at the end and Beirne kicked long was incredible. Doris bulldozing lads in the ruck, absolute scavenging from VDF/Sheehan at the breakdown, Henderson pushing three backs out of the way to win the ball back. Our physicality was really impressive. We're not...
