Re: Schools Rugby 23/24

A Surprisingly few people know the origin of the name Sheep sh!t on the pitches historically? Nope We just always referred to Terenure as "Manure"... assumed it was because it rhymed. And then became The Gick Didn't realise there was an origin story Sent from my LE2123 using Tapatalk

Re: Re: Ireland vs Scotland, Saturday, 4.45pm

My concern would be that the England game gives Scotland hope - either shows a chink in our armor or just gives them something to be optimistic about.

Re: Rumour Mill

I see the telegraph pushing the fact that Molony is English qualified. Would they cap him? No. But it has implications for the club if he is English qualified. Can't recall if relates to financial support from the RFU or rules around squad composition but I believe it is useful for them Sent from m...

Re: A whiff of Cordite

Molecast #117 is yet another great bit of commentary / analysis. The lads don't accept the Gervais theory that the atmosphere in Lansdowne is crazy but rather they suggest that the sophisticated, mature attendees are watching a skillful and talented Irish team display how well they have matured int...

Re: Aviva Premiership: something exciting happens

The Scottish RFU tried to approach London Scottish with a view to having another pro team, the English RFU were quite firm in their rebuttal and that was to play in the English leagues, would you want Wasps playing home games in Athy but in the English Premiership? fair points. The mooted ospreys/e...

Re: URC 2023/24

That's impressive. Capacity of Loftus Versfeld is 51,000. 100-130 Rand (€4.50-€5.50) each for premium seats near the 22 . Any Leinster supporters travelled down for our URC Games before know the all-in price for a trip? Wouldn't mind doing it, just for the experience. A few buddies went on previous...

Re: Aviva Atmosphere - Are the fans the problem?

I guess you could look at it this way, Imagine a conversation in a Unilever, Coke or Ryanair board room going "we've massively increased demands but don't have enough bottles of coke or planes. Oh well, that's just the way it is." Wouldn't happen, that's the difference in professionalism ...

Look- I take your point on the technical illegality. But my point is two-fold: that it didn’t actually prevent the try being scored; and there are variants of Beirne’s illegality going unpunished in loads of mauls.

Disagree on first point - agree on second.

Re: 6 Nations 2024

The Lansdowne / Aviva atmosphere & ticket debate is a perennial discussion. Back in the 90's people were giving out about it (at the time it was the "Sheepskin jacket and hip-flask" brigade). When I moved into our house about 15 years ago, I was chatting with the neighbor and talking a...

Re: 6N Ireland Wales - Dublin 2:15pm Sat 24 Feb

The linesman, the English one, called it immediately. He called Beirne for changing his bind. We all heard that. But no mention of him holding the ball up as a result. It doesn't matter really... Acting illegally as a maul is heading for the line. The penalty try implies that a try was likely to be...

Re: 6N Ireland Wales - Dublin 2:15pm Sat 24 Feb

..... The narrative from ref to TMO was in terms, but simply: “he broke his bind. So, penalty try and a yellow card?” Response, “Yes I agree…”. And the ref trots under the posts as Beirne trudges off. There seems to be a bit of a lacuna in the logic there. And anyway, on breaking his bind, while he...

Re: Aviva Premiership: something exciting happens

hand on heart...which do you think is better....URC teams playing away to an empty stadium in Wales in a lobsided 5 point gimme or playing in front of a jam packed stadium near London in a competitive game of rugby? Furthermore, do you think increasing the reach into england will bring more or less...

Man, Ireland are only three wins on from their tenth consecutive failure to win a ko match at the RWC and already at least one Irish media muppet, Eamon Sweeny of the Indo has lost the run of himself, claiming that Faz mór's "juggernaut" is threatening to make a "mockery" of the...

Re: Aviva Premiership: something exciting happens

Surely Wasps into the URC couldn't be unilateral on Wasps part? By that, I mean that the RFU would have the ultimate veto on an English club, would it not? [ignoring all of the potential objections by the URC constituent nations] And why would the RFU allow it. The next day the best teams would the...

Re: 6 Nations 2024

Yeah, I think it reflects the fact that when the planning was done for the upgrade (beyond the space limitations that Havelock Square creates), the feeling was that a c. 50k seater stadium would be ideal. The past decade plus has shown we would absolutely have the demand to consistently fill a 80k ...

I don't get why people are talking about this being anything to do with Leinster (sorry Ronk - I'm quoting you but I know you weren't specifically talking about this game but it has been mentioned a few ti...
