Re: A whiff of Cordite

Really? Jackman talking about a LAR win breaking Leinster? We have to remember that our head coach arrived in November and our backs coach was away, he had no pre season with the players, that the bulk of the first choice squad played in a WC. In modern day language I'd say that our prep for this s...

Re: Leinster v La Rochelle Saturday 13th April 2024 at 5.30pm RTE2

Conan wil be key regardless of when he comes on. If as a sub then lets give him 30 mins minimum. Am worried about Alalatoa's scrummaging. Leave Baird at 6, it is where he has impact and that imnpact would be drained away too much if he was stuck in a position that he really doesn't dominate in. Most...

Re: Leinster v Leicester - Sat 6 April, 20.00 RTE2

I think both Harry and Ross are fine players and I don't really have a preference for one over the other. But, and lets be honest here, are we not arguing over what our favourite shade of magnolia is? It's not as if we're arguing the difference between two entirely different but equally brilliant p...

Re: Leinster v Leicester - Sat 6 April, 20.00 RTE2

Johnny became what he was by dint of a long term injury to the incumbent and then lots of time in the saddle. I remember plenty of flat games with errors by Johnny at the RDS but he was given a free pass by most here. Ross has had lots of time in the saddle and his ceiling is what it is. Harry's lac...

Re: Leinster v Leicester - Sat 6 April, 20.00 RTE2

Except for the absence of Ringer, which is a grave concern, delighted with backs selection. Forwards missing Milne & Jenkins from my preferred starters. Can understand the logic, particularly with Porter available. Conan, Jenkins, Kelleher will have big impact off the bench. I'd like to have se...

Re: Leinster v Leicester - Sat 6 April, 20.00 RTE2

This might be wrong but management might see Ross B’s tackling as decision maker especially how he tracts back and the reality that we will be reacting to a lot of high ball kicks behind our def line during the match Meh...we did alright with Harry at 10 away to La Rochelle and Leicester of all tea...

Re: Leinster v Leicester - Sat 6 April, 20.00 RTE2

How tf is he supposed to reach the heights he promises to achieve, if he can't rack up the playing minutes and gain the on-field experience he needs? A By being sufficiently better than the other options at outhalf so that the coach can't leave him out. You can't be that without the minutes and esp...

Re: Leinster v Leicester - Sat 6 April, 20.00 RTE2

harry not starting, he deserves it. Agree. Also strange not starting Ross last week but picking him this week. Both Byrnes are lightly raced this season, but Harry has considerably less time in the saddle at 10 since the 6N started (92 mins overall but only 54 mins for Leinster vs the Bulls) compar...

Re: Schools Rugby 23/24

Terenure College was a working farm which included a herd of dairy cattle right up to the late 1970's. The cattle grazed on the rugby pitches and to the horror of the boys from St Mary's, Belvo, Gonzaga, Clongowes and Blackrock (St Michaels didn't play much at the time) they were expected to play o...

Pundits, the media, podcasts and social media scene lurch from black to white...'best team in the world', 'no weaknesses'...but they don't play the games or pick the teams. We can be, and do beat, the best teams in the world on our many good days. Saturday we were a bit off it all round and our alre...

Re: England v Ireland Saturday 9th March 2024 4.45pmTwickenham

The Grand Slam is the prize, and we've 100% left this one behind us. So the whole 6N is pointless unless a team wins the GS? We lost our 8th RWC QF so this team has failed like all the others! An attainable world record is the ultimate measure so wining Olympic Gold sucks! This binary era we...

Re: England v Ireland Saturday 9th March 2024 4.45pmTwickenham

I don't even see why OJ would be ahead of TO'T who applied himself very well against France last year and has hands, feet and mobility that OJ does not. I don't know who is the better scrummager, but I am doubtful of OJ's pedigree given that he was Big Mike's bridesmaid at Crusaders.

Sam Berman ripped it up at 13 for Terenure vs UCD last week opposite Andrew Osborne and Luke Kritzinger. Bossed it. Slightly surprised he didn't feature in the 20's 23. thought hed come back in too. But Sylvester, the other centre, was the guy making the big holes in the middle, all during the seco...

Re: Ireland Clubs Team V Portugal A, 8/3, 7pm: www.rugbytv.pt

Tough to pick a team like this.

I make it 11 clubs 'represented' - a key factor, only superseded by the deliberate decision to pick a core from a leading club, Terenure (7 starters with 4 of a pack that UCD went toe-to-toee with in Lakelands last Saturday)

I played against Dean and Ward (not that they would know it)...but alas Ollie's hammers meant I never had that great privilege.

All super players. King Ollie on the same level as Sexton and Kyle (albeit mythically) for me.

Have to say that Johne Murphy is a quality pundit on ATH. Thought so too. Good technical analysis expressed well. When I saw the two I was keen to get their points but I thought Johnny Holland was very poor and gave very little to the conversation Anoother all Munster panel, albeit Johne is a Kilda...
