Wales v Ireland 2019 6N (The Match)

We need to be able to go after the Welsh forwards for 80 minutes and so we need our most destructive scrummagers. Killer owns that loss against the head more than anyone. The fact that the French sub-tight head was yellow carded owing to scrum infringements against Killer tells us what the referee k...

Re: Ireland v. France Sun 10 March 15.00

So disappointed to see Stander back and likely straight into the team after a 5 week absence. The man is a Cul de Sac of a player who has stymied Conan’s development and will slow the development of other Irish-born and bred 8s like Deegan and Doris. Though a nice person and committed he is a merce...

Is that Academy or Sub-Academy?

In addition to those 4, how many of the backs do you think will get contracts?

Re: Academy 2018/2019

Have to disagree, on the basis of q/f and s/fs that I saw. Two teams who took their chances are in the final. Gonzaga may not have the physiques of Michaels but they make less mistakes. Gonzaga made less mistakes as they weren’t under the pressure that pertained in the Michael’s vs Belvedere and Bl...

Re: Leinster's Backrow Options

I am a big fan of both Deegan and Doris but just to be fair to Doris at the same age (just before his 21st birthday) Deegan had only started 2 games for Leinster. Maybe your expectations of Doris at his age are to high? When Deegan was in his maiden season (16-17) he was 5 months younger than Doris...

Re: Leinster v Cheetahs Friday 1st March 7.35pm KO

Nigel Owens had a good look at the large screen following the incident and had the assistance of the TMO in his ear. Yet he somehow still managed to see the hit on the shoulder/chest moving upwards, which patently was not what happened. The length of the disciplinary ban, even after the obligatory ...

Re: Schools Rugby 2018-19

It will be interesting to see how good Boyle, Barron, Hickey and Guinane are compared to him next season. Guinane has the frame allied to the athleticism to develop the most out of that group and has made the most strides in his development in the last 2 years. He is appreciably bigger, deeper ches...

Re: Schools Rugby 2018-19

O'Donovan had all the talent but didn't even make the Leinster 20's squad. I'd take Hernan, Guinane and Hickey over last seasons backrow, this seasons front row is better than last aswell. Obviously Baird/Healy >> Fish/Woods. Well, I would be really worried if you agreed with me. Both of the...

Re: Schools Rugby 2018-19

Baird/Penny are a level above Ryan, which is reflected in his absence from the 20's team. This SCT is more talented than last years 1-15 IMO. Yes re Ryan relative to the other two. I suppose last year's back 3 are all still in the team a year older, as is Gilsenan...so maybe the backs are better......

Re: Schools Rugby 2018-19

I havn't watched it back on TV but I think Belvo will view that as one they let slip. Michaels defense was very good but Belvo dominated possession for most of the game. Unfortunately in the 2nd half every time they built pressure, they knocked it on or gave away possession. Some of that was down t...

Re: Schools Rugby 2018-19

all 4 starting outhalves in semi-finals were u18 and 5th years afaik while all 4 starting scrumhalves were 6th years, might explain why they all seemed to play more off 9. Not so sure if they did play more through 9 after all. Rock did in the QF. Zaga do. Michael’s more balanced in SF. Clongowes we...

don't think yesterdays game had the quality or talent that todays game had. Team of the semi's: 1. Jack Boyle(St. Michaels) 2. Hugo Fitzgerald(Gonzaga) 3. Conor Cagney(Belvedere) 4. Alex Soroka(Belvedere) 5. Jack Coolican(Gonzaga) 6. Jack Guinane(St. Michaels) 7. Mark Hernan(St. Michaels) 8. Will H...

Re: Schools Rugby 2018-19 Post by backrower8 » March 6th, 2019, 6:36 pm Today’s game was much more error strewn than yesterday’s. Belvo put down a lot of passes under good line speed from Michael’s. "schoolboy errors" possibly? Boom-boom! There were fewer schoolboy errors yesterday imho

Re Gonzaga. The most recent school to get into their 1st ever SCT final was CBC Monkstown in 1976...and they won it!
