Re: A whiff of Cordite
Excellent hands i.e. catching the ball and passing it to a team-mate; Explosive acceleration and running balance over 15m i.e. runs away from effective tackles; Good tackler on both sides i.e. he can tackle opponents with his right & left shoulders; Reads the game well i.e. he anticipates where...

Re: NZ proposing new competition - implications for Arg
The way forward for Argentina is to set up a club based in Barcelona and see can they build from there by gaining entry into one of the European competitions. The most likely is Pro14 but I wouldn’t put it beyond the French to be welcoming hosts to an Argy run European club. If they can build on tha...

Re: A whiff of Cordite
It is an interesting conversation to have for sure. Off the top of my head Luke Fitzgerald and Jordan Larmour would be an example of two players who were marked as supremely talented from day one and it translated directly to success with the senior squad. From what I remember James Ryan didnt even...

Re: A whiff of Cordite
Correct but he throws around the term quite a lot without alluding to what he means. It’s a vague way of praising a players ability without getting into the specifics. Question still stands from the IT today... ? It’s short for Irish Times, an abbreviation not a pronoun. He is saying I throw around...

Re: Leinster Academy 20-21
well not really? Mark Hernan from the 20's is the most notable missing player really and it's assumed he will still be in sub-academy going forward. Then there is the top players coming out of school, presumably they all are going into sub-academy, so leinster haven't missed out on them. if anythin...

Turns out is a direct quote, first 2 paragraphs in the article https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/rugby/the-offload-all-eyes-on-leinster-s-academy-intake-1.4302638 Possibly why he wrote this underneath. from the IT today.. Re: A whiff of Cordite
I’d have ranked BOD and McCaw very highly but talent is more something I tend to associate with backs. McCaw was more of a dogged player. Yes good jumpers throwers and scrummagers can be classed as skilful or talented but it is a term more often than not reserved for backs. I suppose I just wanted t...

Re: A whiff of Cordite
There is a standing joke in Irish rugby that one of the most eagerly awaited news items in a season is the confirmation of Leinster’s first year academy intake, especially amongst the other provinces. That announcement will come early this week and in Limerick, Cork, Galway and Belfast there’ll be ...

Re: Sexton's last season? Outhalf going forward..
For me Frawley doesn’t have the mental side yet to be termed top class prospect. He switches off mentally in games and does wayward passes and kicks. He started a few last season and had to be hooked for Harry Byrne who came on and turned the game around. Fantastic on the break but doesn’t really ge...

Re: Pack size problems moving forward?
Did we have a pack size problem last season? probably not, but we did miss Leavy massively in the final and carrying an unfit SOB and a diminished McGrath didn't help either. Could we have a pack size problem going forward? It's possible although unlikely, with the biggest question marks probably a...

Re: Pack size problems moving forward?
The bench mark as to whether our forwards are physically big enough will come in the 6 Nations against England next season. Moreover, it will be a bench mark as to our smarts also. The amount of absolute sh!t housery England got away with this year I don’t think I’ve ever seen in a modern game befor...

Enforcer - No. But he is abrasive and very physical. What he lacks in brute force he makes up for in footballing ability and he makes a very good PRO14 if not European blindside.mildlyinterested wrote:Josh M hasn't shown he is capable of being an enforcer at the top level, lacks that top end ability for me.

Re: Schools Rugby 2019-2020
I don't watch the schools cup, but now might be a good time to raise the question that others have asked here, are we too reliant on St. Michaels? Is it a ' systemic risk for Leinster to be sourcing so many from one school'? I mean it must be a bad thing for Leinster Rugby to have so many graduates...

Re: Ospreys Away, 21st of Feb
Will Connors is a serious prospect. Playing Phenomenal this season Who would you rate higher - Connors or Penny? Both are very good players but Connors isn’t near Penny’s level yet but he has good potential I think your schools bias is showing you up here a bit. Impartiality has to be key. Connors ...

Re: Schools Rugby 2019-2020
Clongowes were impressive in 2nd half.. If they make the final they'll certainly give michaels a challenge. Assuming michaels get past bridge. Clongowes have to beat Knock which by no means is a done deal in fact I'd say Knock are slighlty more complete team. Both schools vying for their ninth titl...
