Well done to Ross Byrne. Stood up firmly in defence, took a few late hits and managed the game well without looking to doing anything out of the ordinary.

Van der Flier is I am sure upset not to have started.
But is the player I absolutely love having to come off the bench here.

Enjoying reminiscing about the Crazy Gang's great FA Cup success.
Everyone talks about Aldridge's miss, but hardly ever hear mention of Beardsley's goal that was ruled out to award Liverpool a free outside the box instead

Form book says is about who gets to lose to Toulouse in the final. Edit: so obsessing over LaR is missing the point. They're just the next team up. I go with the draw falling kindly for Toulouse. With them having the hex over La Rochelle who have the hex over Leinster who have the hex over Toulouse.

Re: Croke Park to host major Leinster rugby games

molecast great on this today. Yes - but they did seem to think RDS would be available for the URC QF whereas I think Croke Park is being mooted for that. They asked what number of tickets need to be sold to pay for Croke Park. I think I saw somewhere that the GAA charge 750k for it - just taking th...

Re: Re: Ireland vs Scotland, Saturday, 4.45pm

Amazingly - if we score 4 tries or lose by less than 7 points - we win the championship assuming England don't win by more than 80 points.... away in France... Has it ever been the case that a team has won the tournament with 2 losses? Much less 2 losses in a row? Should we lose to Scotland it will...

Re: England v Ireland Saturday 9th March 2024 4.45pmTwickenham

Better team on the day won the game. 6:2 came to haunt us, but we never got out of 3rd gear except for both of Lowe's tries. Well played England's attack, the least vaunted part of their ability. Bundee, JGP, JVdF & Hugo were excellent but we rarely sparked as a team. A Grand Slam is hard to wi...

Re: A whiff of Cordite

The recent series about Wales rugby from BBC: Slammed, that focused on the 80s finishes on a great quote by Welsh Captain Paul Thorburn about Stephen Jones. Made it in his victorious after dinner speech that scuppered England from claiming the Grand Slam, after Wales lost their three previous games....

Re: 6N Ireland Wales - Dublin 2:15pm Sat 24 Feb

The penalty had nothing to do with pulling the maul down. The logic behind the penalty try was in regard to the illegal change of bind hindering the ability for the Welsh player to get a clear grounding.

And I thought we were complaining about how the Welsh moan about referees.

Dante with a red card today. Suspension may follow into some La Rochelle games, given he not long back from previous suspension.

Re: 6N Ireland Wales - Dublin 2:15pm Sat 24 Feb

love the "happier coach" line in some of the media post match yesterday. kudos to Gatland for managing to manipulate & nurture this. Wales lost 31-7 playing against a team down to 14 for a large chunk of the game and their only score was a dubious penalty try (it looked like Wales bro...

Re: Trends

Not really a trend, but a question: if Bielle Barry had been clipped/pushed by the Scottish No14 just after he chipped the ball, do you think France would have been awarded a penalty try? video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBvh2SsKwEo He is absolutely surrounded by Scottish defenders, but ends ...

Re: 6 Nations 2024

Paddy Power has us at 1/6 to win 6N's but interestingly they have us at 22 point favourites to beat Wales. That's huge. I think we'll do a number on Wales. I think that this is one of the worst Welsh teams I have seen in a long, long time – twenty years or so. I've been shocked that they have been ...

Re: 6N: France Ireland - Marseille Fri 8pm 2 Feb 2024

In fairness to Dickson, he was playing the line-out from an Irish penalty before the TV ref told him to reverse the decision and give a penalty to France for the high tackle. So can't pin that one on him.
