Re: Rugby Championship 2022

Deserved red The terrible thing is if he does that earlier in the match he only gets 20mins for it. i think the red carded player can't come back, he needs to be replaced: Red card law trial: If a player is red-carded he may be replaced after 20 minutes by another player. The 20 minutes from when a...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

South African team for tomorrow's game against NZ has a very familiar look. It should certainly give us a good benchmark as to what level NZ are in World terms: https://www.espn.co.uk/rugby/lineups?gameId=595482&league=244293 Certainly looks to me as if Joe pointed the finger at the front five....

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

My opinion would be that Leinster are lacking a few elements Ireland have when it comes to being clinical against top teams. What's the stat? - 1 try scored and 5 conceded in the three Heineken Cup Finals under this coaching ticket. One thing Ireland have on the defensive side of things that Leinst...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

It's a very good coaching team. Mike Catt doesn't get enough mentions in my opinion. The general consensus is Ireland are copying Leinster but if that was the case it wouldn't have taken as long for the attack to click. I don’t think Ireland are copying the Leinster game plan, but there are definit...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

There was a marked improvement in all of the set piece and ruck play after the first test. I remember AF stating he was going to ask for ‘clarification’ from world rugby on some of the interpretations. It can’t be accidental that in the second and third tests that New Zealand were pinged mercilessly...

I’m in flitters after reading this story. Whatever about the diagnosis the treatment of the player and family was and is f%~king shocking. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/they-fixed-siobhan-s-broken-bones-but-turned-their-back-on-her-broken-brain-n668rkwlt A non paywalled copy for those who don'...

6 days after we beat NZ in a Test Series in NZ and the subject is already dropping deep in the "Active Topic" list. Still the greatest rugby achievement for an Irish team. Just for you, RTB, the behind the scenes video courtesy of the IRFU. Just went online in the last couple of hours: ht...

I'm extremely positive, once more the Union confirms my oft-stated belief that the World Cup matters not a jot.

Re: Leinster exiles, where are they.

Maybe of course Salanoa has gotten as much rugby as he is capable of in terms of ability you could be right there Dave, there is some truth in maybes. On the other hand he's landed a three year contract so they've not binned him, but he's not even riding pine he's just like there. I can't shake the...

Re: Leinster exiles, where are they.

There is also too much wailing when a 3rd choice Leinster player is approached to play for Munster and he, who has the final decision, accepts the offer. "why can't they develop their own" and "they're stealing" as if the player moved at gunpoint. Any player that has left Leinst...

Re: Leinster exiles, where are they.

Absolutely impossible to know if Tadgh Beirne would have worked out had he stayed. But there is far too much emphasis put on Leinster having let him go, especially by fans and media of the province that has benefited greatly from his return to Ireland. Sometimes players leave and just flourish else...

Re: RWC 2023: Ireland

True but in a compressed RWC squad 3 no 8s is a luxury you can't really afford. Maybe I didn't understand the brief? I thought it was to select a team to beat Australia with an eye on the World Cup. in the 15 or so months between now ad then there's a lot of matches to go, there's absolutely no gua...

Re: RWC 2023: Ireland

My thinking for the back row is that in Conan and Doris we already have 2 great 8 options, so Coombes seems a bit of s luxury in a compressed squad. POM and Beirne cover 6 tho you'd ideally like to have one more 6 with you. Prendergast gets the nod, tho there are a lot of 6s pushing him. Timoney ca...

Re: RWC 2023: Ireland

Looking ahead to the autumn, and with an eye on refining your potential RWC squad, pick your 23 to face Australia on the basis that we really want to win, but nobody who started a test vs the ABs can be selected, nor can Kelleher/Henderson/Conan. Playstyle and player demands stay the same as today ...

Re: Ulster 2022-2023

Former Ireland international Dan Tuohy is back in the game as boss of the newly formed academy at Malone, the Belfast-based All-Ireland League club, after having his playing career cut short last year through serious injury. The 35-year-old earned 11 Test caps between 2010 and 2015, featuring twice...
