Re: Rugby Championship 2022

100% agree. And to see the players who actually are good be "infected" by the malaise to the point that they're playing tier 2 level stuff ball-in-hand is really worrying for NZ. 'Infected' is the right word. Ardie Savea, Beauden Barrett, Rieko Ioane, Aaron Smith and Sam Whitelock are pro...

Re: Rugby Championship 2022

The All Blacks were really poor. This is the worst All Blacks team I have seen in a long, long time. I would say that they're the worst of the professional era. I don't think that it is all down to Ian Foster, but you can't look past the confusion that repeatedly crops up when they have possession,...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

Just rewatched the first test and Scott Barrett put on a masterclass of backrow shenanigans that would make McCaw (or Alan Quinlan) blush. Without him - and a display of lazy running reminiscent of PE class at first period - NZ would have struggled to contain us far more than they did in the final 5...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

When you think about it, the attrition rate on Leinster opensides is shocking; SOB missed huge chunks of his career, Leavy's career was cut short, we haven't seen Connors in a long time. It might be that the coaches have just decided its too risky to make it a central pillar of our game especially ...

Re: Andy Farell's Reign of Terror

I don't really see any issue with an extension of the length it is. He was always going to stay till at least the World Cup. So what if the World Cup does go badly? It's pretty much par for the course with Ireland. And then he's there for two more 6N competitions after that. You're not going to wan...

Re: Andy Farell's Reign of Terror

Van graan's clause was to be enacted within 6 months of signing, so presumably farrell on his current contract was past that point. Maybe by re signing they've put that clause back on the table? Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk Was it not a 6-month notice at any stage in the contract? That's ho...

Re: Andy Farell's Reign of Terror

As far as Faz' renewal goes, it's impossible to comment on whether the IRFU have bottled it or not without knowing the circumstances. If Andy's contract has the same stupid clause that Van Graan's had (which seems very likely), i imagine they've been frantically trying to have it removed for some ti...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

The one person, who's taken publicly a back seat, hasn't gotten a huge amount of mention, but who's fingerprints, it seems to me, are all over the uptick in Irish fortunes is Paulie; think, for example, line outs, from the Earls try vs England last year's 6 Nations thru to the mauled over tries whi...

Brilliant news.

I hope Easterby and Catt are being extended too.

Re: RWC 2023: Ireland

Anybody surmising about any future Irish selection between now and the announcement of our panel for RWC2023 should probably discount (maybe by 15 -20%) the selection prospects for anyone -other than Kelleher & Henderson - of those that weren't on this Tour. The universal acclaim for the colleg...

Re: RWC 2023: Ireland

Larmour? 34 tries in 104 games for Leinster and Ireland. Might be a bolter too, Tommy O'Brien was close before getting injured. TOB is a much better player than Larmour imo. Only problem is he can't stay fit. Not sure about much better - the kid has never played for Ireland and only has 20 caps for...

Re: RWC 2023: Ireland

Coombes is a freak, big and strong, quick enough and decent hands. I reckon he’d be worth a punt for sure. True but in a compressed RWC squad 3 no 8s is a luxury you can't really afford. Maybe I didn't understand the brief? I thought it was to select a team to beat Australia with an eye on the Worl...

Re: RWC 2023: Ireland

Looking ahead to the autumn, and with an eye on refining your potential RWC squad, pick your 23 to face Australia on the basis that we really want to win, but nobody who started a test vs the ABs can be selected, nor can Kelleher/Henderson/Conan. Playstyle and player demands stay the same as today ...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

Does Stockdale fit the mould of what Faz seems to be looking for in wingers? He’s a cracking classic winger, but doesn’t have nearly the same all court game that Hansen or Lowe so. Faz would obviously know him well but who's to know what today's Stockdale is like? He could be miles ahead of where h...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

Going back to the Plan A Plan B discussion - SquidgeRugby makes a point in his most recent video that the tactic that NZ made so well in the first test to pull us apart (Aaron Smith running backline plays from 9) was worked out and counteracted in a week by Ireland. He also makes the point that our...
