Re: Connacht v Leinster Rainbow Cup Sat 8/5 19.35

After 10 minutes, I feared the end of an epock was in view. But then, without any external influence, the leaders called a halt (and Murphy started to apply the laws), and much of my confidence was restored. But yet it was a lesser standard; it was a line-out maul we could boss; it was a mid-field w...

Montpellier 32-22 La Rochelle; Toulon 44-10 Toulouse.

Europe Cup Finalists get hangovers.

Re: European Cup Semi-Final: Away to La Rochelle, Sunday 2nd of May 3pm

What a well written and very informative piece. It adds to the 'rehabilitation' of ROG in my mind from a somewhat petulant figure who hugely resented Leinster's development into a major force in European rugby and their replacement of Munster in that role. His disclosure that the LAR focus was to st...

Re: 2021 Lions

From a Leinster perspective not sorry to see Jonno, Ringer u& Ryan omitted and delighted to see Conan & Porter included. Kelleher did more than enough to get selected but maybe Gatland saw a lot of his throwing in that Irish Camp pre the English game. Some real strange ommisions: Centres : No Slade,...

Re: Ireland u20 2021

The modern Irish underage Panel with players from QUB, Ennis, MU Barnhall, Sligo, Naas as well as all the usual Club sources.

Very evident to see the dominance of the University Clubs (19). Possible a function of Covid and the closure of Rugby Clubs for almost a year.

Re: Enforcer Second-Row Options

It's hard to win any game of rugby if your losing the collisions it's even harder when your set piece is struggling However your pack had guys like Furlong Healy and Ryan in it, these are top class front 5 forwards who have delivered at test level let alone European cup level, guys like Kellher Con...

Re: Connacht v Leinster Rainbow Cup Sat 8/5 19.35

Well, this thread has been well and truly hijacked. I hope that our selection and performance against Connacht is focused solely on winning the game and illustrating that our Squad is superior to others within the Pro14 and that our players can produce their best in any competition. As I don't under...

Re: European Cup Semi-Final: Away to La Rochelle, Sunday 2nd of May 3pm

Two intelligent strands of commentary from @hugonaut and @backrower8. A further outlook might be that Leinster now have a file opened on LAR and over the weeks and months ahead, that will be pored over, analysed and scrutinised to objectively determine what actually happened to us, by clarifying as...

Re: Ireland u20 2021

That's a broad-based Squad, even with the list of absentees (and there's a few more that could be added to it). The fundamental problems are that this generation are at the period of significant S&C development but totally deprived of any rugby experience, unless they're in a formal Academy structur...

Re: European Cup Semi-Final: Away to La Rochelle, Sunday 2nd of May 3pm

Perenara would be attractive player based on his skill-set. There's not many at this level and he has top class winning experience. Whether his personality is suitable could be a problem. Ideally, we could do with top class who will 'nurture' two Byrnes and Frawley

Re: Leinster Academy 20-21

I'd guess Carlow and Dundalk will be next but have been stopped dead in the tracks by Covid. Money was coming from Leinster and the associated centre of education. Both have been financially hit by impact of Covid. Would be surprised if both are not in operation by 2022.

Re: European Cup Semi-Final: Away to La Rochelle, Sunday 2nd of May 3pm

Would we even be allowed sign an NIQ SR given RG and Carter are already on the island? I think SR is a concern going forward as we are too lightweight there. We really need the South African teams to enter the PRO XX so we can get use to the physicality week in/out and our bacline playing without g...

Re: European Cup Semi-Final: Away to La Rochelle, Sunday 2nd of May 3pm

The Yellow on Lowe was a horrendous decision. The LAR support played Lowe's legs against the ball and he had no chance to get away. One thing a penalty, a really biased decision to make it a card. Carley did not referee the breakdown or the off-side well. Lowe's kick before Skelton try went backward...

Re: European Cup Semi-Final: Away to La Rochelle, Sunday 2nd of May 3pm

Their defensive performance at the breakdown was their real weapon. We conceded some strange decisions decided by Carley but we never dominated the breakdown and their line-out maul was the weapon we didn't have. Well done to Jono's work on how we carry into contact and how to attack it. We haven't ...

Re: Ulster Rugby - 2020-21 Season

Well that's disappointing. Ulster just stopped playing, not helped by Cooney going off. Opportunity missed...again. Totally. Post Best they lack leadership and post Cooney they lack direction. Burns opted out of looking for ball and kicking 5 times from half-way line to a full back who caught every...

Re: Ulster Rugby - 2020-21 Season

Apart from losing Cooney, they have totally switched off and stopped passing and carrying and just kicked ball away. If you keep given your opponents the ball, they will score!

Dan needs to sort out how Leicester are "splitting" their line-out maul. Apart from that Ulster have done 'rightly and Robbo would love to be covering this. SUFTUM

Re: Champions Cup 2020 / 21

24 team format being kept for season 2021/22. I saw an interview with Simon Halliday, CEO of EPCR, on BT Rugby Roundup on Sunday where his big news was that the three Leagues and six Unions had agreed the overall collaboration process for EPCR through to 2028-29 Season. He said this was a first and...
