Re: Eddie Jones blames public schools for building 'compliant' rugby players

Willie Duggan, Philip Matthews, Willie Anderson, Paddy Johns, Des Fitzgerald, Dan Leavy, Jamie Heaslip, Peter Clohessy, Anthony Foley, Stephen Ferris, Kevin Maggs, Bundee Aki is a very brief list of relatively recent Irish players who didn't need a particular social background to be tough as nails. ...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

If NZ are to sack Foster, it's difficult to see how they can do so before the end of the Rugby Championship. They follow up their second game against S A by playing Argentina, home & away and then Australia, home & away by the end of September. The All Black's XV, specifically come to Europe...

Re: Eddie Jones blames public schools for building 'compliant' rugby players

That's a good point for sure, I'm not sure the funding would survive a Sinn Fein government. Private schools are a unique blend of public and private funding and the academic and sporting standards are higher as a result. Rather than trying to break a system that's working I'd prefer to see that re...

Re: Rugby Championship 2022

At one level, it could be argued that the decision by NZRFU, with agreement from it's Provincial Unions, to sell c. 6% of the equity to US firm Silver Lake for approx US$137m looks like an inspired transaction. You own a unique asset which has had an unknown value, but an extraordinary reputation, f...

Re: Rugby Championship 2022

Anybody who expected any innovation will be disappointed. S Africa still have a strong line-out, maul & scrum. Their defence is highly efficient and they compete very well for kicks. Report ends.

Nothing to see here. But question must asked why referee allows so many breaks for minor SA injuries?

Re: Rugby Championship 2022

What an appalling referee is Gardner, yet again. Players lying offside at breakdown; hands on ground by poacher; catcher been taken out in the air; each offense clear but ignored. Total "homer".

Certainly don't expect anything but 'Boks win.

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

South African team for tomorrow's game against NZ has a very familiar look. It should certainly give us a good benchmark as to what level NZ are in World terms: https://www.espn.co.uk/rugby/lineups?gameId=595482&league=244293 Certainly looks to me as if Joe pointed the finger at the front five. ...

Re: Andy Farell's Reign of Terror

We don't know how coaches renumeration is structured. Every coach up to now may well have had incentives related to progress in the world Cup. But presumably if the irfu are going to have financial incentives in the contract, the main ones will be related to financial success, ie doing well in the ...

Re: Friday's rant

Women's football; women's soccer; All Ireland's both over before the end of July; NZ rugby in shreds; Leinster season still 6 weeks away. The world is in chaos.

What are supposed to do in August?

I don't believe it's appropriate to comment on any individual player as:
a) I'm not a Medical specialist in the field; and
b) the medical history has not been released to the public.

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

Probably the lowest profile member of the Irish Tour Party who appeared during each Test Match, his role is uncertain outside the close-knit Squad and coaching group. His CV makes fascinating reading and he has certainly got plenty of stars in his copybook along the way. Given the various elements o...

Re: New CEO - Shane Nolan

Well said wixfjord. I for one am delighted to see that this appointment is one that technically is coming from outside Dublin and more representative of the 12 counties approach. Being part of Navan RFC he would have a great appreciation for the diversity that the game has with under age, womens ru...

Re: Andy Farell's Reign of Terror

The IRFU will advise delegates at its Annual Council Meeting later today (Friday 29th July) that Ireland Men’s Head Coach, Andy Farrell, has signed a two-year contract extension that will see him remain in his position until at least August 2025. In his address to Council Kevin Potts, Chief Executi...

6 days after we beat NZ in a Test Series in NZ and the subject is already dropping deep in the "Active Topic" list. Still the greatest rugby achievement for an Irish team.

Disappointed by this announcement which smells of "Committee Decision". The management speak accompanying this announcement give little real information about his suitability for the job. Leinster Rugby needed a dramatic reorganisation after Mick Dawson, who grew the role as he grew into t...

Lots of headlines about a Steve Hanson interview of NZ TV overnight. Haven't been able to access the actual broadcast but here's coverage of the headlines: https://www.the42.ie/steve-hansen-new-zealand-board-5827768-Jul2022/ https://youtu.be/_muEuxEjqfk He makes a good point about the NZ u20s. Re: RWC 2023: Ireland

Anybody surmising about any future Irish selection between now and the announcement of our panel for RWC2023 should probably discount (maybe by 15 -20%) the selection prospects for anyone -other than Kelleher & Henderson - of those that weren't on this Tour. The universal acclaim for the collegi...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

I listened to the Molecast at lunchtime. It was the one from the morning of the Maori game. They really should be getting a wider audience as the provide more insight into Irish rugby than the talking heads on the other podcasts that are floating around. Then again, they would have to dop the "...
