Re: Connacht 2019/20/21

I find this yearning for Roux once he's leaving a bit weird. Yes he's an effective scrummager and yes he can bulldoze a ruck but his footballing skills are relatively poor along with only being an average lineout forward. I don't feel he's going to get into a Leinster first 15 with everyone fit but...

Re: RFU reviewing “Swing Low”

What have white anglo saxon protestants ever done wrong? You spake, the RFU heard! https://www.rte.ie/sport/rugby/2021/0511/1220982-rfu-decides-to-ditch-saxons-in-interests-of-diversity/ I’m a bit surprised by this one to be honest. Unlike Swing Low, I hadn’t heard any complaints about it. Good thi...

I watched that, thought he made a load of sense about the No8s selected.

Re: 2021 Lions

You could make a serious team out of players not going, couldn't you? Something like Healy, Kelleher, Sinkler, Gray, Ryan, Underhill, Navidi, Vunipola, Youngs, Sexton, May, Slade, Ringrose, Earls, Keenan Jesus, Johnny May isn't going either ... somehow that got past me. He has been excellent for th...

Re: 2021 Lions

I would agree, wouldn't shock me if by the final test the back 5 is itoje laws beirne curry and toby f I'm still surprised that he left out Billy Vunipola. He's 28, has had very few injuries this season and to be franks has been a world class player [which I would look at as being in top three in t...

Re: 2021 Lions

Some really odd calls in that squad. I am delighted for Conan, he has had an Alan Quinlanesque career to date, and all fit may not even make the Leinster squad for the big games. These are the type of selections which I really like. I think 8 Irish players is about right for where that Irish team i...

Lions captain Alun Wyn Jones feels hand of history on his shoulder Wales’s indomitable talisman is keenly aware of the gravity of the honour bestowed on him by Warren Gatland Scratch away the gloss they have slapped across the British & Irish Lions and there is a single, simple beautiful idea under...

Can we get the Lions talk on the Lions thread?

It's interesting stuff but it's all over the place at the moment.

Re: 2021 Lions

Odd selection 11 English 10 Welsh 8 Irish and 8 Scots Some big names missing Sexton Ryan Billy v and John Davies , a few there I wouldn't have taken and a few left at home I would have taken Anyhow good luck to them let's hope we can get a series win Sinckler missing as well. I thought he was a cer...

Re: Munster Rugby - Semi Conscious, the Series Finale??? - 2020/21

Somebody mentioned before the Pro14 final how surprised they were to see Kilcoyne selected after he was subbed off after 20 mins for a bad bang on the head against England the previous weekend. Here it is, from the horse's mouth: "I was getting a bit of form and then I got sparked out against Englan...

Re: European Cup Semi-Final: Away to La Rochelle, Sunday 2nd of May 3pm

We made handling errors and had poor ruck work because they were big? Nah, don't agree with that. I think I'll leave it there as this isn't going anywhere! We also relied too much on getting to deck, which exposed us to poaching turnovers. They had 16 offloads to our 3, including 9 from their backs...

Re: European Cup Semi-Final: Away to La Rochelle, Sunday 2nd of May 3pm

Third choice scrum-half was always the most likely position that would come and bite us in the ass – I have to say that I think it was a very difficult issue to remedy in practical terms for Guy/Leo/Stuart once McCarthy announced he was going to Munster. Thankfully we have addressed that for next s...

Re: European Cup Semi-Final: Away to La Rochelle, Sunday 2nd of May 3pm

I think Ryan wasn't really at the races yesterday which is a real pity because their lineout is frankly weak, not just not a strength, but a bona fide weakness which we failed to exploit. They knew it which is why they kicked long and not for touch. Their average kick length was just over 29metres ...

Re: European Cup Semi-Final: Away to La Rochelle, Sunday 2nd of May 3pm

Better team won. Their defence was excellent and didn't give us an inch. Great tackling from them and great jackalling on a lot of occasions ... they were able to get a good few stops in the second half with turnovers or turnover penalties. Their kicking game was better; I felt that they were able t...

Genge in the scrum against South Africa? Now that would be worrying.
Gatland has picked sub English props before – Mako Vunipola in 2013 and Kyle Sinckler in 2017. He love a hard chaw as well.

Re: European Cup Semi-Final: Away to La Rochelle, Sunday 2nd of May 3pm

Maybe it's just lockdown but the buildup to this game feels somewhat subdued. Have been gradually getting more nervous as the week has gone on. SH is obviously a big worry and seeing JGP's name in the 23 would definitely help me sleep better on Saturday night. As JB mentioned above, it's crucial th...

Re: 2021 Lions

What's your view on Healy and Porter's chances? I would particularly be pleased for Healy, I think he was close to his pomp when he got the ankle injury with the Lions in 2013 and it would be a fabulous validation of his career to reach the summit again - while not helping Ireland(mainly)/Leinster ...

Re: 2021 Lions

I think Gatland would like to bring Manu. I think he will give him every chance now that North is out ... those two guys are freakish specimens, and I think Gats would want one of them in the midfield. I reckon it will be Henshaw, Slade, Ringrose and Manu. Owen Farrell will be selected, depends how ...
