Re: Rugby Championship 2022
Sometimes good coaches go wrong. It worked elsewhere, it might work again in the future, but it ain't working now and it's not going to. Results are bad, team is not performing, rugby isn't good, players aren't doing so hot either. It's not a bad run, it's a decline and it's been long enough. There'...

Re: Eddie Jones blames public schools for building 'compliant' rugby players
I'm guessing not too many parents of private school kids vote Sinn Fein. Think it's one of those populist policies that will do nothing for the general population. Don't disagree with you on tapping into private funding because of rugby being played but it does happen that new head makes new rules ...

Re: Eddie Jones blames public schools for building 'compliant' rugby players
The problem is that there is an element of hazard in relying on fee-paying schools so heavily. If €85-100m per annum were taken out of the voluntary secondary sector budgets it would make a big difference to how much they were investing in their rugby programmes, and politically and legally that am...

Re: Grahamunster - Graham Rowntree's Munster 2022/2023
Frisch will provide some really good depth in the middle of the park, and I doubt he is coming to Munster to just make up the numbers. He will be pushing hard for inclusion in the Irish squad for the RWC. I’m not saying that he is good enough to make it, as I have limited knowledge of the guy, and ...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022
Yep that's a great point. Not sure whether we (as in Leinster) purposefully choose not to go for them (either tactically or to reduce contact injuries), or whether we don't have the players for it, but it's been a missing part of our game since the days of Leavy/SOB. Ireland has POM & Beirne, b...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022
It's a very good coaching team. Mike Catt doesn't get enough mentions in my opinion. The general consensus is Ireland are copying Leinster but if that was the case it wouldn't have taken as long for the attack to click. I don’t think Ireland are copying the Leinster game plan, but there are definit...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022
I think we will need to check our back-up props in a couple of serious games [Cian Healy and Dave Kilcoyne on the LH side, Finlay Bealham and Tom O'Toole on the TH side]. Given our issues with props on the tour to NZ, I think we will take 3 LHs, 3 Hs and 3 THs to RWC23. And once you take them as to...

Re: Andy Farell's Reign of Terror
That’s the spirit Dave, PMA!!! I'm extremely positive, once more the Union confirms my oft-stated belief that the World Cup matters not a jot. How does one follow the other? The IRFU don't like speculation around coaches leading into a RWC, too messy. Hard to give one year when someone has the leve...

Re: Leinster exiles, where are they.
Absolutely impossible to know if Tadgh Beirne would have worked out had he stayed. But there is far too much emphasis put on Leinster having let him go, especially by fans and media of the province that has benefited greatly from his return to Ireland. Sometimes players leave and just flourish else...

Re: Leinster exiles, where are they.
There is also too much wailing when a 3rd choice Leinster player is approached to play for Munster and he, who has the final decision, accepts the offer. "why can't they develop their own" and "they're stealing" as if the player moved at gunpoint. Any player that has left Leinst...

Re: RWC 2023: Ireland
If you look that that side, you can really see where the improvements in our game have come from - athletic, ball carrying forwards who can offload and 'messier' backs who can play make in field. Kilcoyne -> Porter Herring -> Sheehan Stander -> Doris Murray -> JGP Stockdale -> Lowe Earls -> Hansen ...

Funny how it was always the first time they took it, that people got caught. And they were acting alone.

Re: Tour to NZ 2022
Does Stockdale fit the mould of what Faz seems to be looking for in wingers? He’s a cracking classic winger, but doesn’t have nearly the same all court game that Hansen or Lowe so. I'd say thats the challenge for him this season, to show he can play that way - he may well have that game but hes nev...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022
Shanahan has a 2 year deal which makes a punt strange from a planning perspective. Ulster will have 4 scrumhalves (2 more academy) with no immediate likelihood of international minutes. There weren't really any other good options for other provinces so it would make sense as a Nucifora hire. Western...

Well now we definitely shouldn't risk Sexton in the game we already weren't going to risk him in.

Re: Tour to NZ 2022
I’m delighted for Tadhg Beirne and Peter O’Mahony but the over the best players in tour were Sexton and VDF. It seems to have dropped out of the conversation that there was 11 starters from Leinster in the team that beat NZ Probably for the better not to emphasise provincial rivalry. Anyway the sit...

Re: European Champions Cup [Most Improved]
Yeah, didn't happen. They couldn't care less about our ideas or our station. They weren't making enough money out of the competition and it was, in many cases, costing them money - so they left. Quite right too. Every club in Spain is in massive debt, and most of it is to each other. The transfer f...

i.e. it's something that should not be encouraged by us.Dave Cahill wrote: ↑July 22nd, 2022, 12:35 pm It's not going to improve rugby unless it happens by accident. That's not the goal. The goal is to improve the bottom line.
Leinster are tied to the success of the other provinces. It doesn't make sense for us to go it alone.
