Re: Leinster v Munster, URC Final Round, Sat. 21st May, 7:15pm, Aviva

Regardless of Furlong's injury status I'm at a loss again as to why the Healy thing was shelved completely when one injury seemingly leads to him being a TH option again, and of course it would potentially end up being for our biggest game of the season. Even just two 20 minute sub appearances sinc...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

I would be surprised if McCarthy didn't make it. He's been in an Ireland camp, and impressed Farrell greatly by the sound of things while he was there. And he's now also making the strongest Leinster matchday squad (admittedly while Baird is working his way back to fitness). If you're making the st...

Re: Leinster v Munster, URC Final Round, Sat. 21st May, 7:15pm, Aviva

In case everyone regards this as a dead rubber I hope our match day squad take into consideration the likelihood that 99% of their opponents on Saturday evening will probably be shouting against them a week later, wishing for a La ROGelle win! Just saying it may be worth remembering in the heat of ...

Re: Heineken Cup Dates 2022/23

Financially you get good bids if other cities are competing for the business. A large part of the fun of the final is the mix of visiting fans. I think there was a feeling that the final was getting stale in the same 6N stadia. Rather than pick somewhere with local fans and well used to hosting rugb...

Re: New contracts for coaching ticket

If we can't get McNamara, who would seem the obvious and best choice, then a duo of Isa & SOB would be pretty cool. Proper 'boot room' succession planning that. Succession planning needs work though. Hogan and McNamara both left due to lack of opportunities and then we lost Leamy and Contepomi....

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

This part of the thread clearly demonstrates how difficult it will be to be surprised by any selection for this Tour. From my viewpoint only Alex Kendellan has really demanded a place by his performances. We need to have as close as possible a like-for-like replacement for JVdF and Kendellan fits t...

Re: Leinster Squad 21-22

Josh van der Flier named Irish men’s players’ player of the year Thoroughly deserved - well done JVDF. It's the biggest individual accolade in the Irish game and an incredibly difficult award to win. It's a fitting tribute to the phenomenal season that he has had. In my opinion, he has been the bes...

Re: New contracts for coaching ticket

I think you're overselling SOB's 'wildness', particularly compared to Leamy (who was one of the most mental players ever to play in green), Flannery (who once kicked the legs from out under a French winger) and POC (who once concussed one of our players with a kick in the head). SOB was on the same...

Re: New contracts for coaching ticket

There's a big difference in temperament between the lads listed above and O'Brien. Loads of players have a competitive edge in a game, and that's great. They aren't all loose cannons mid week. O'Brien was always wild. It's part of what made him one of the best players to ever play for us. Like I sa...

Speculative article, and probably not that unexpected.

Yeah, spot on. You definitely could have levelled accusations of not picking youth in previous seasons, but I think Munster have done very well this season in bringing through some of the younger talent. Virtually every player in their academy has a full cap now (11 out of 14). You could argue some...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

Possible 42-man squad: LP (3): Porter, C.Healy, E.Byrne (Kilcoyne injured) HK (4): R.Kelleher, D.Sheehan, Herring, Heffernan TP (4): Furlong, Bealham, O'Toole, Milasanovich (give Milasanovich a go, he covers both sides, is 130kg and we already know all there is to know about Marty Moore) LK (6): Ja...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

But if you lost one of the three hookers to serious injury in 12 months time, who would be the replacement? That the strongest reason to take four to NZ in July Dave Heffernan, on the evidence of Farrell's squad selections to date. Can any of Tracy, McKee, Delahunt, Tierney-Martin, D. Barron, Buckl...

Re: Leinster v Toulouse HC SF Sat 14th May 3:00pm

Buckley grew up too strong to develop a mean streak. He was always going to get in trouble even if someone else started the fight. Gentle giant. He also would be a lock in the Damien Browne mould rather than cast as a John Hayes replacement. This doesn't apply to Saffers though, they've produced so...

Re: Leinster v Toulouse HC SF Sat 14th May 3:00pm

Props that size wouldn't make it through the Irish system and generally haven't been signed. When half the league have similar size players it makes it easier. If we signed a player that big they'd be playing most of their games against more mobile players. Brennan is the obvious candidate to get su...

2 teams gave up home matches for key knockout games due to concerts. Then lost at home.

Can't imagine anyone else will take that chance for a few years.

Re: Leinster v Toulouse HC SF Sat 14th May 3:00pm

That's fair enough. I have only seen it in the ground. So couldn't hear what was said. I presumed it was an "offside in the maul" offence. Like you say. You don't often see breaking the 10m line called They've been clamping down on it and Leinster have been called a few times. The giveawa...
