Re: Grahamunster - Graham Rowntree's Munster 2022/2023

, what is great to see, is that Ryan went from a player who nearly didn’t get a pro contract as a young lad to one that... Not many Munster players would be held in this esteem by Leinster fans, and is a real mark of how Ryan is viewed. This is a real Cinderella story. It's pretty far from great. I...

Re: Grahamunster - Graham Rowntree's Munster 2022/2023

Faz picked Tom O'Toole ahead of him. That puts him far enough down the pecking order that Munster were allowed cut him, just. He's too old for development minutes, but he's useful. He was capped last summer against Japan and it wouldn't have taken many injuries to get him in squads. But it forces Mu...

Re: Grahamunster - Graham Rowntree's Munster 2022/2023

Crazy to me that they kept Archer and let Ryan go. My respect for JVG and Rowntree has lessened a lot. Seems crazy without knowing any of the facts. Coaches have to make difficult decisions all of the time, and unfortunately at this moment in time each province is struggling to balance the books, a...

Re: Grahamunster - Graham Rowntree's Munster 2022/2023

The below quote from Ian Costello confirming that the additional year in the academy will be used to allow Campbell to continue his studies. It also hints that perhaps there are some non rugby related reasons why Campbell is not stepping into full time professionalism right away, which is great to ...

Re: S Africa - Unstoppable juggernaut?

Montpellier about to win the final.

It’s annoying to think that they get to win something after their season.

But I think it also shows that we shouldn’t be worried about France.

Re: Grahamunster - Graham Rowntree's Munster 2022/2023

I wonder if the additional season in the academy is at his request to finish his studies prior to moving into full time rugby? I think it's far more likely that he asked for a contract now but agreed to this compromise. Announcing now raises his profile and status with a win and discourages suitors.

Re: Grahamunster - Graham Rowntree's Munster 2022/2023

I think of Killaloe as Tipp.

Anyway, nice to see some decent potential in an academy intake.

I don't think I've ever seen it announced that a player will do one more year in the academy but then get a 2 year professional deal.

Re: S Africa - Unstoppable juggernaut?

The team with a week off gets extra time for travel. Not sure exactly how it works out but I'm guessing something like the NFL where the London games are timed to be adjacent to bye weeks. With a few years of successful participation I see them coming in to little resistance. 12 month calendars are ...

Re: S Africa - Unstoppable juggernaut?

Yeah. Putting SA in the Heineken Cup is the audition. Now all it takes is a few years without someone shitting the bed. France will get light touch until the RWC, then law changes and/or refereeing interpretations will hobble the giant forwards somewhat. If we want to beat them in the RWC we won't g...

Ulster 2022-2023

McFarland signs a contract extension until 2025.

So we've about 6 months before it's announced that he's joining Bath.

If something on Wikipedia looks impossible…. it probably is. Here’s an emotional interview where he talks about leaving https://twitter.com/BristolBears/status/1538854177119514625?s=20&t=3mFFUXJv_-DuQTNjjm8mVw Makes complete sense to me that someone who speaks like that in public would announce ...

Re: Connacht 2021/22

I heard this on the radio the other day, and couldn’t help wondering if the timing of this announcement has anything to do with the timing of the RWC. The announcement of his impending arrival may mean that rules could be bent to get him into the Irish setup prior to his arrival. A strong TH lock w...

Re: S Africa - Unstoppable juggernaut?

It's not us we should be afraid of, we're strong. It's the Welsh, Scots and Italians.

Scots are fine but the Glasgow game was a shock to the system and a wrong appointment could undo work.

Italians I'm not sure of.

Welsh are relatively close but morale is rock bottom and they could collapse.

Interesting to see 3 players in the squad and all at different stages of their careers. Ed Byrne may be...

Re: S Africa - Unstoppable juggernaut?

Looked very different earlier in the season. They did well and looked solid, then they basically had one good week where Ulster and us had a bad one. We went from facing the most limp and uninterested team in URC knockout history to the most and we weren't at all ready for it. We'll do better. To me...

He's a starter for them. We were annoyed at losing our 3rd choice scrumhalf.

Re: Leinster exiles, where are they.

I'd guess that the back injury affected fitness and has needed management. Sometimes a few games are what is needed once you reach a certain stage of recovery. He lost out hugely with that injury, it was timed incredibly badly. Aungier left and things were looking good, Salanoa suddenly left and he ...
