Re: Tour to NZ 2022

In the group stages with Scotland being last and South Africa second last, to have a decent chance in the 1/4 final they need to put out a second string against SA and target a Scotland win. There's a two-week gap between the South Africa and the Scotland games. I didn't know that but I'd still lik...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

But if you lost one of the three hookers to serious injury in 12 months time, who would be the replacement? That the strongest reason to take four to NZ in July Dave Heffernan, on the evidence of Farrell's squad selections to date. Can any of Tracy, McKee, Delahunt, Tierney-Martin, D. Barron, Buckl...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

Regarding the squad size. Initial thoughts are: 4 x looseheads 4 x hookers 4 x tightheads 12 x locks / backrows 4 x outhalves 4 x scrumhalves 4 x centers 6 x outside backs That's 42 players (24 forwards and 18 backs). However the backs are flexible so I think there will be one or 2 less. Carbery can...

Re: Munster Rugby 2021/2022 - Search for the Holy Grail

2 teams gave up home matches for key knockout games due to concerts. Then lost at home. Can't imagine anyone else will take that chance for a few years. They might have lost to Toulouse at home and they might not have gotten past Exeter. Quinlan mentioned €400,000-€500,000 from the Sheeran concerts...

This is ireland. If you're playing out half then you must take the kicks. Doesn't matter if there's a better kicker in another position.

by betty swallocks » May 11th, 2022, 12:06 pm There is one more signing in the works apparently, which is likely to be a TH. I saw that. I also saw that they are combing through the market which makes me believe they have no one lined up or whoever they did fell through. You can see on the boards a...

Re: A whiff of Cordite

Listening to the English based podcasts over the last few days, a theme is emerging. They're all pretty downcast with no semi involvement for 2 successive seasons for Premiership clubs. They all seem to think this it will get worse with next years reduction to 1 marquee player. They predict that Pr...

Re: United Rugby Championship

The big difference between the regions and provinces is the amount of money the provinces generate. Not only are the provinces attendances much bigger in the URC alone but tickets are more expensive. Add to that sponsors, champions cup attendances and prize money even Ed Sheeran concerts. The tax br...

Re: Munster Rugby 2021/2022 - Search for the Holy Grail

I watched from about the 50th minute on. Can't fault the players for effort. In that period though I'm not sure I saw one threatening move from Munster. Farrell made 2 blunders near the far touchline. One was not passing and the other was getting turned over which proved costly. It was mainly Toulou...

Happy with Prendergast. I would imagine he would have had plenty of discussions with Rowntree on style of play going forward. Leamy and Kyriacou are unknown coaches to me but Leamy has a good reputation. If you get the right people you won't go far wrong.

Re: Munster Rugby 2021/2022 - Search for the Holy Grail

Despite the injuries I don't think Munster have been in a better place for a long time. It looks like all the negativity from around Christmas onwards has lifted and everyone's coming into form at the right time. The change of style has really helped with the players enjoying themselves. That's unde...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

Ian Costello getting all the credit in the meeja for player development but he is only back there a year. All the hard work done over the past few years in the Munster Academy is really starting to bear fruit. The standard of player coming through looks significantly higher; they have really turned...

Adamson calling a high tackle for what was very clearly not despite having the advantage of a number of replays. Didn't see the match but he's a poor ref. Melts under pressure. I have been very impressed by the Georgian ref so far. Best Scottish ref is Hollie Davidson Best to look at anyway.

Re: Munster Rugby 2021/2022 - Search for the Holy Grail

What do we make of Jenkins? This is my third game watching him and he seems to have very little cardiovascular stamina and seems to be quite unfit. Came on in around the 60 min mark, carried twice and then was gassed walking into every line out (a habit of his). Not to cast a clout before May is ou...
