Re: Tour to NZ 2022

He played 19 games for Munster this season and lost 9 (I count Toulouse). I wouldn't have had him on the tour at this stage of his career. Why does the number of games a team has lost in a season have any relevance to whether he should be selected for Ireland? Ed Byrne is very lucky to be there imo...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

Getting off to a good start is vital. Not only for ireland but NZ players go into this with a lot of doubts plus they have a few inexperienced players etc. Plant the seed to doubt and their free flowing game could come to a grinding halt. A bad start and we could be looking at a painful month for th...

Good second half. They cut out the errors and started to play a bit.

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

O'Toole and McCarthy have big potential. Loughman, Heffernan and Treadwell are experienced squad players and it's up to others to overtake them. The backrow is very exciting though. So of the whole pack there are 5 players who are in the potential category and 3 who are solid pros. In years gone an ...

Re: Ireland U20's 2022

I like the look of Lorcan McLoughlin. He was the only forward bringing it to the French for most of the game. Great pace, power and foot-work. I thought the backs were very poor. Way to many errors which just piled on the pressure and France had their tails up then. The pack were alright. Scrums we...

It's a mystery how it's only 10 points in it. If ireland don't improve the floodgates will open. They look like they've just met.

Re: Grahamunster - Graham Rowntree's Munster 2022/2023

Thanks for the link dropkick, I don’t remember POC doing anything like that! I thought Baird was a freak of an athlete for second row, albeit he might be playing more at 6 now, but maybe with Ahern and O’Connell coming through it’s just the new normal. It was Baird-like alright. He has very good ha...

Re: S Africa - Unstoppable juggernaut?

I personally think that the SA teams joining and winning the URC is a great thing. For years the Irish teams have played in the most mediocre league in world rugby, where teams can play up to 60 players a season and still win most games handy. Where the best players almost never get into double dig...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

The provocative TAB New Zealand advertising campaign around the Irish Rugby tour in NZ is typical of the Paddy Power-style marketing offensive to raise betting revenue and thus profitability. Perhaps the Irish Tour Party should respond by asking TAB New Zealand why they are considering selling thei...

Shame about the injuries but in a way it's good. Those players have proved themselves already so now another group get to. I don't see them winning any match but hopefully they will put in a good showing.

Re: Grahamunster - Graham Rowntree's Munster 2022/2023

Hasn't come up in a while but Jager is 6ft 4. That'll be a big deal first time he loses a few scrums. And there's history of lengthy debate around tall props in Munster. The new engagement laws are favouring big tall props or at least helping them. Imo Munster's problems are far greater than scrumm...

Re: Trends

Will Ireland be tempted to adopt the now prevalent tactical approach of kicking high, long and often in an attempt to beat NZ? This strategic style, with some particular variations, has been successful for France and various NH Club teams. It appears to be the lower risk tactic preferred by some hi...

Can’t say I expected that level of performance. I certainly didn’t think winning was a foregone conclusion but I expected a lot more than that. We make some really strange decisions in big games. Why the f%~k were we chasing tries via a malfunctioning lineout instead of taking easy points when we w...

Re: Leinster v La Rochelle Heineken Cup Final Sat 28th May 4.45 Marseille

In any case it doesn't matter. The Irish rugby development pathway makes it almost impossible to develop the type of power players these teams have and the IRFU won't let us spent that kind of money. It's not genetic, guys like Buckley and Maguire were plenty big and strong. Brennan is that much bi...
