Re: Ireland U20's 2022

It's a mystery how it's only 10 points in it. If ireland don't improve the floodgates will open. They look like they've just met.

Re: Grahamunster - Graham Rowntree's Munster 2022/2023

Thanks for the link dropkick, I don’t remember POC doing anything like that! I thought Baird was a freak of an athlete for second row, albeit he might be playing more at 6 now, but maybe with Ahern and O’Connell coming through it’s just the new normal. It was Baird-like alright. He has very good ha...

Munster academy intake https://www.munsterrugby.ie/2022/06/23/six-players-to-join-greencore-munster-rugby-academy/ First time in a while there's a bunch of players from Limerick. Quinn, Ryan, O'Connell and Oliver. Evan O'Connell is POC's nephew. Only U18s this season but looks a real talent. Forwar...

Re: S Africa - Unstoppable juggernaut?

I personally think that the SA teams joining and winning the URC is a great thing. For years the Irish teams have played in the most mediocre league in world rugby, where teams can play up to 60 players a season and still win most games handy. Where the best players almost never get into double dig...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

The provocative TAB New Zealand advertising campaign around the Irish Rugby tour in NZ is typical of the Paddy Power-style marketing offensive to raise betting revenue and thus profitability. Perhaps the Irish Tour Party should respond by asking TAB New Zealand why they are considering selling thei...

Shame about the injuries but in a way it's good. Those players have proved themselves already so now another group get to. I don't see them winning any match but hopefully they will put in a good showing.

Re: Grahamunster - Graham Rowntree's Munster 2022/2023

Hasn't come up in a while but Jager is 6ft 4. That'll be a big deal first time he loses a few scrums. And there's history of lengthy debate around tall props in Munster. The new engagement laws are favouring big tall props or at least helping them. Imo Munster's problems are far greater than scrumm...

Re: Trends

Will Ireland be tempted to adopt the now prevalent tactical approach of kicking high, long and often in an attempt to beat NZ? This strategic style, with some particular variations, has been successful for France and various NH Club teams. It appears to be the lower risk tactic preferred by some hi...

I take it back. I was speaking from a position of bitterness because we weren't playing.
Fair enough!

Re: Leinster v Bulls Friday RDS 19:35 TG4

Can’t say I expected that level of performance. I certainly didn’t think winning was a foregone conclusion but I expected a lot more than that. We make some really strange decisions in big games. Why the f%~k were we chasing tries via a malfunctioning lineout instead of taking easy points when we w...

Re: Leinster v La Rochelle Heineken Cup Final Sat 28th May 4.45 Marseille

In any case it doesn't matter. The Irish rugby development pathway makes it almost impossible to develop the type of power players these teams have and the IRFU won't let us spent that kind of money. It's not genetic, guys like Buckley and Maguire were plenty big and strong. Brennan is that much bi...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

In the group stages with Scotland being last and South Africa second last, to have a decent chance in the 1/4 final they need to put out a second string against SA and target a Scotland win. There's a two-week gap between the South Africa and the Scotland games. I didn't know that but I'd still lik...

But if you lost one of the three hookers to serious injury in 12 months time, who would be the replacement? That the strongest reason to take four to NZ in July Dave Heffernan, on the evidence of Farrell's squad selections to date. Can any of Tracy, McKee, Delahunt, Tierney-Martin, D. Barron, Buckl...

Re: Tour to NZ 2022

Regarding the squad size. Initial thoughts are: 4 x looseheads 4 x hookers 4 x tightheads 12 x locks / backrows 4 x outhalves 4 x scrumhalves 4 x centers 6 x outside backs That's 42 players (24 forwards and 18 backs). However the backs are flexible so I think there will be one or 2 less. Carbery can...

Re: Munster Rugby 2021/2022 - Search for the Holy Grail

2 teams gave up home matches for key knockout games due to concerts. Then lost at home. Can't imagine anyone else will take that chance for a few years. They might have lost to Toulouse at home and they might not have gotten past Exeter. Quinlan mentioned €400,000-€500,000 from the Sheeran concerts...

This is ireland. If you're playing out half then you must take the kicks. Doesn't matter if there's a better kicker in another position.
