Following Cardiff's win against Connacht on Friday night, Leinster went into this game knowing that they would have to do it themselves or at least clinch a bonus point in order to secure the Magners League title. There was a carnival atmosphere at the RDS, however it was tinged in the sadness that accompanied the departure of Keith Gleeson and Ollie le Roux, both of whom were off to sunnier climes.

Match Preview: Leinster Rugby vs Newport Gwent Dragons

Leinster have one hand on the Magners League trophy now. A win on Saturday evening against the Dragons will definitely secure them their first trophy since they won the inaugural Celtic League six seasons ago. Indeed, they may even start the match as champions if Cardiff fail to beat Connacht this evening. Either way, Leinster will be determined to win their final home game of the season and put on a display for the big crowd.

So it was Edinburgh. Again! Leinster welcomed back Brian O'Driscoll from injury but Leo Cullen retained the captaincy. Leinster arrived in the Scottish capital in touching distance of the Magners League title but with a bonus point win the requirement it seemed an unlikely target.

We're nearly there! Leinster face Edinburgh tomorrow night with a chance to reclaim the Magners/Celtic League six years after they claimed the inaugural event. To win the championship Leinster will need to win with four-try bonus point. This would leave them on 59 points, a total only Munster could still theoretically match, but Leinster would have 13 wins, a total Munster would fall short of even if they win all their remaining games.

The Magners League crown was getting closer for Leinster following the victory in the previous round against Llanelli. Munster are probably the only team left who could derail their title aspirations. A win for Leinster here would see their gap at the top of the table increase significantly, but a loss would ensure that a frenetic finish to the league would be in store.
