A full house undeterred by the unusual kick off time crammed into the RDS for the first of this seasons interprovincial matches. Leinster handed debuts to new signings CJ van der Linde and Rocky Elsom. Munster were looking to avenge the two defeats inflicted on them by Leinster in the previous season.

Great pleasure was taken in hijacking the official site last Monday, loudly boasting the game was "sold out". Leinster versus Munster is big league now. The 18,500 people will make this the most viewed game anywhere in home nations (excluding the Twickenham scramble) so far this season.

Leinster faced the Ospreys in an early season form test, and they passed, just! It was a night for defences and only two individual moments of brilliance from the left wingers broke the pattern. Yet for all that, Leinster got the win and maintained their early season momentum.

The Magners League has traditionally awoken from its' summer slumber like a grouchy, arthritic old man. It didn't want to be rushed, it wanted to stretch it's legs a little, have a cup of tea and a general dodder about before getting going. This was in a large part due to the Irish management teams' policy of slowly drip-feeding the internationals back in the provincial teams. So September was pretty much a month of development teams with sprinkling of internationals and the quality of the rugby wasn't great.

Leinster crushed a weakened Edinburgh team 52-6 on a balmy Friday evening in the RDS. It was a cagey enough start as both teams got the measure of each other. Edinburgh were testing the Leinster defence but it held firm, a marked improvement on the previous week.
