Match Preview: Leinster Rugby vs Ulster Rugby

by Jim O'Connor, 2009-03-31

After the heights of Ireland's magnificent Grand Slam win last week, it's back down to earth as Leinster face Ulster in the Magners League this Sunday. Yet far from an anti-climax, Leinster fans will actually be glad to be back at the RDS after being away for two months. It promises to be an exciting game as Leinster continue their pursuit of leaders Munster against a team that's come on in leaps and bounds under Matt Williams. As a former Leinster coach, Williams will be dying to put one over on his former players, and as Ulster's sensational win in Munster showed, they are not a team to be under-estimated.

The teams in second and third place took each other on with both vying to take the top spot at least until Munster's match on Saturday. It's another week off from the tension of Ireland's Grand Slam campaign, but there'll be no respite for Leinster. Like two weeks ago, they have a trip to Wales and once again it's a vital match in their quest to win back to back Magners League championships. Victory will put them ahead of the second placed Ospreys and will put them top of the table (if only for twenty fours hours with Munster playing the Dragons on Saturday). It's quite a position for Leinster to be in, considering their chances were widely written off after they lost to Glasgow back in October. However they still have to do the business this weekend to capitalise on their recent winning streak.

Match Report: Scarlets vs Leinster Rugby

by Sarah Lennon, 2011-08-23

Victory for Leinster in the corresponding fixture last season between these two teams went a long way to helping Leinster secure the Magners League crown and a similar outcome in this match would see Leinster take to the summit of the league, albeit temporarily.

Match Preview: Scarlets vs Leinster Rugby

It seems an age since Leinster last played in the Magners League against Cardiff and certainly a lot of water has passed under the bridge since. Leinster secured a Heineken Cup quarter-final (albeit in the most excruciatingly tense manner imaginable) and Ireland have made their best start to a Six Nations in years. It would be tempting to downplay the importance of this fixture, however it's still a vital game for Leinster's hopes of retaining their championship.
