Match Preview: Leinster Rugby vs Leicester Tigers

by Jim O'Connor, 2007-11-12

Leinster and Leicester have a rich Heineken Cup history having met eight times in total. In the first five years of the competition they were drawn in the same pool a remarkable three times. Those six meetings were split three wins apiece, including two famous wins at Donnybrook in '97 and '99. Since then they have met twice in the quarter-finals but Leicester won handily both times. Leicester won 29 - 18 at Welford Road in 2002 but it's the 2005 defeat at home that will be freshest in Leinster fans minds. Match Report: Leinster Rugby vs Connacht Rugby

by Jim O'Connor, 2007-11-07

Two late tries from Gordon D'Arcy gave Leinster a twenty point win over Connacht last Friday night. However it was certainly not the comprehensive win the scoreline would suggest. The abrasive Connacht pack made life very difficult for Leinster, with openside Johnny O'Connor causing havoc at the breakdown. Referee Peter Fitzgibbon ruled the offside line very loosely and Connacht took full advantage. After an early miss their Australian out-half Tim Donnelly kicked a penalty to give Connacht the lead.
