Match Preview: Connacht Rugby vs Leinster Rugby

by Jim O'Connor, 2010-04-20

Leinster make an unfamiliar midweek trip to Galway to play the fixture that was originally scheduled for January 2nd. After opting not to play the match during the Six Nations, this fixture was always likely to be at an awkward time and Leinster now have to play two games in two days with a trip to Glasgow on Friday. So coach Michael Cheika has taken the unusual step of naming his side for both matches early.

Last Friday was simply one of the great nights at the RDS. Clermont were possibly the finest team Leinster have ever hosted and they brought with them three thousand fans who were quite magnificent. Then a local judge decided to make it a "Great Friday" by allowing the pubs to serve alcohol, and in one swoop set the Irish drinking classes free from years of oppression from the Catholic Church!!

Now that the Six Nations Championship is over, there will be no more pesky interruptions from Ireland. It's all Leinster, all the way from now until (hopefully) the end of May. Of course the Six Nations ended in disappointment and no doubt both players and fans will be relieved to return to their provinces this weekend.
