Match Preview: Leinster Rugby vs Glasgow Warriors

by Jim O'Connor, 2012-05-11

After the heroics of Bordeaux, Joe Schmidt had the luxury of being able to change his entire starting fifteen for the trip to Newport to play the Dragons last week. The fixture was pretty much meaningless as Leinster would finish top of the league regardless. However Schmidt would still have been delighted that his young team were able to win at a tough venue like Rodney Parade. It meant Leinster finished off their regular season with their best ever record of 18 wins, 1 draw and just 3 defeats.

In terms of the first part of the season's league ambitions, it was very much mission accomplished last Friday night at the RDS. After having to travel to Thomond Park for last season's final, Joe Schmidt was determined not to have to do that again. To make sure, Leinster had to finish top of the table to ensure home advantage for the semis and the final. Match Preview: Leinster Rugby vs Edinburgh Rugby

Classy, Clinical and Professional!

Leinster turned up with their A-game last week, well for the first 46 minutes anyway. With 34 points racked up and the win more than secure, Leinster seemed to go into camouflage mode and effectively worked on their defensive drills for the rest of the match. They were content with only scoring the four tries but each one was a dazzling work of sublime passing and support running. There must be a special mention for Brian O'Driscoll's score though, which will be hard to beat for try of the season.

Match Preview: Leinster Rugby vs Cardiff Blues

by Jim O'Connor, 2012-04-06

After what seems like a very long time, (it's eleven weeks actually) Leinster are back in Heineken Cup action tomorrow against Cardiff. Now all the niceties of the pool stages are over and it's pure knock-out rugby from now on. This ramps up the excitement of course, but also the nervousness. Last year Leinster took on Leicester Tigers at this stage and it was an achingly tense match. Leinster weren't at their best but they managed to dog their way through. This year, there hasn't been half as much nervousness amongst fans because Leinster are such raging hot favourites. However, being so strongly fancied can bring dangers of it's own, as we saw in last year's final against Northampton. Leinster's coaches have been bigging up Cardiff all week to keep minds focused and understandably so.
