Match Preview: Leinster Rugby vs Ospreys

by Jim O'Connor, 2012-03-22

With yet another mediocre Six Nations campaign over for Ireland, it's Leinster business only from now until (hopefully) the end of May. Obviously Leinster will have one eye on the Heineken Cup quarter-final against Cardiff coming up in a fortnight. But first they have some business to attend to in the Pro12 league facing their two nearest rivals, third-placed Ospreys and second-placed Munster in successive weeks. With an eleven-point lead with five games to go, Leinster would guarantee themselves top spot by winning both their next two games. This would allow them some leeway to rest players in the final three games, two of which are tough away trips to Ulster and the Dragons. Thomond Park is always a tough place to get a victory, so tomorrow's match against the Ospreys really is a must-win game.

Match Preview: Glasgow Warriors vs Leinster Rugby

by Jim O'Connor, 2012-02-24

After last week's somewhat fortunate win over the Scarlets, Leinster retained their ten-point lead at the top of the table over the Ospreys. Leinster can't afford to get too complacent though. Of their seven remaining games, only two are at home and certainly Munster, Ulster and the Dragons are tough places to get wins. Their biggest threat to finishing top of the table may not come from second-placed Ospreys but from Munster who are currently in third place but have a game in hand. Munster's run-in looks a lot easier than Leinster's and they could well win all their remaining games. So Leinster will have to remain on guard to keep the points rolling in as much as possible.

That's Leinstertainment!

Last weeks Leinster match against Treviso was set-up to be a drab affair. It was a lousy kick-off time, 7.05 on a Thursday, with people fighting through brutal rush hour traffic to get to the match. It was miserable weather-wise too, with constant rain all day and with Leinster having a fairly young team out, a dour, scrappy win was probably the best we could anticipate. However despite everything, a pretty decent Leinster crowd turned up and they were rewarded with a fine display of attacking rugby, particularly in the last half hour.

Match Preview: Leinster Rugby vs Benetton Treviso

by Jim O'Connor, 2012-02-08

After a three-week break, Leinster are back in action in the Pro12 against Italian side Benetton Treviso. Unfortunately because of TV scheduling, it's on a Thursday evening with a 7:05PM kick-off, which means the crowd will be greatly reduced from normal. Nevertheless it will provide a welcome distraction for the fans present from the latest wretched international display.

Leinster Rugby vs Montpellier Herault RC

by Jim O'Connor, 2012-01-20

Last week, Leinster won on the road and once again it wasn't pretty. Glasgow's record in Europe at Firhill is impressive and you can see why. The pitch is narrow, the ground is heavy and Glasgow are very well organised and conditioned. They were a lot cuter at the breakdown this time, slowing down Leinster's ball and they also shut down a lot of the main ball carriers.
