Match Report: Leinster Rugby vs London Wasps

by Sarah Lennon, 2008-10-20

The two winners from week one collided as Leinster welcomed London Wasps to the RDS. Billed in the media as the battle between O'Driscoll and Cipriani but in truth this was just one of the sub plots. The match also saw former Munster men on show for Wasps in Staunton and Reddan, the latter of whom was reportedly close to signing with Leinster in the summer. Leinster were looking to exact revenge for the drubbing they received at the hands of Wasps in the Quarter final stage two seasons ago.

Match Preview: Leinster Rugby vs London Wasps

by Jim O'Connor, 2011-08-23

Last week's match was all about winning (you might just have picked that up from the preview) and win Leinster did! In fact they essentially won the match and even had a bonus point secured before half-time. Shane Horan's try, which secured the bonus point, was scored in an eerie silence. The home fans were stunned into unheard levels of quietness (even by their standards) by their sides' apparent conversion to some sort of rugby Buddhism that required strictly no form of tackling on another player. The away fans were similarly stunned, wondering if this was some sort of wonderful dream that was soon to be punctured by the ringing of a travel alarm clock. This surely wasn't Murrayfield! Murrayfield was the place of frustration, bitterness and despair for Leinster folk. Not a place where back-rows run free like they're playing a sevens match and the backline turn back the years with length of the field tries.

Match Report: Edinburgh Rugby vs Leinster Rugby

by Sarah Lennon, 2008-10-16

Edinburgh then. The monkey on the back that felt more like an ape. Leinster travelled to Murrayfield, the site of so many disappointments in this competition in terrible form having lost their previous Magners League games. Leinster had rung the changes with Felipe Contepomi returned to outhalf for the first time this season and with a centre partnership of O'Driscoll and Fitzgerald, perhaps a nod to this Autumns Internationals.

The Leinster - Edinburgh Rivalry

by Andrew Farrell, 2008-10-10

For Barcelona , read Alfredo di Stefano; For Europe, read Jimmy Demaret; For England, read Australia; For the Boston Red Sox, read Babe Ruth; and for Leinster , read......... eh......... Duncan Hodge?

OK, so the comparison isn't quite the same and is void of international awareness, but Hodge has done more than most to set upon Leinster a chilling form of jinx. His record of played three, won two, drew one, and a grand total of 25 points is a massive understatement to his contributions. (oh, and for good measure, his only appearance against Ireland during a twenty-six times capped career for Scotland was Murrayfield 2001: Scotland 32, Ireland 10).
