Leinster Rugby (16) 30 - 5 (5) Treviso
RDS Showground, Dublin,
Friday, 25th February 2011, 19:10

Humans are the only creatures on the planet known to seek revenge, and Friday night's game may have had a hint of that. Coach Joe Schmidt again had to make do with a depleted side for Friday's game against Treviso, with his senior players tied up in Ireland duties. Yet, to their credit, the Leinster youth, no matter how inexperienced, are proving that they are future stars of the game. O'Malley, McKinley and Conway will soon be serious threats for first team jerseys. Also well received was the return of Stan Wright who got 40 minutes.

Captain Isa Nacewa continued to cement his position as best ever Leinster NIQ, slotting three penalties with ease before Dave Kearney went over, leaving it at 16-0 on 28 minutes. Treviso, however, continued their impressive attacking display, troubling the Leinster defensive line. On the stroke of half time the pressure paid off when Padro went over for an unconverted score.

Leinster were not to be out done though, Dave Kearney's pass to McKinley saw him over the white wash, which Nacewa converted. A further blow was dealt to Treviso then, but by their own hand, van Zyl was sent to the bin for constantly infringing at the ruck.

Schmidt then ordered the changes and emptied the bench for the last twenty or so minutes. Despite losing some momentum at the set piece through error, and having a try disallowed for a forward pass, Leinster continued to put the visitors under pressure. Just at the game's end Conway went over for a try, which the impeccable Nacewa converted.

No bonus point then, but the young Leinster proved that they were well able to stand up for themselves. If such progress is to continue then things look very bright for the future of Leinster rugby.
