Match Preview: Southern Kings vs Leinster Rugby

by Jim O'Connor, 2018-11-02

Leinster play their only game this season in South Africa on Sunday afternoon.

Obviously this game is taking place in the shadow of the beginning of Ireland's Autumn International campaign but Leinster will want to keep their winning Pro14 run going while also giving valuable gametime to members of the wider squad. Last week Leinster were in Italy where they comfortably beat Treviso in an incredibly tedious match. But Leinster put in a professional performance and with a three week break before their next match at home to the Ospreys, they will want to sign off with another win.

Match Preview: Benetton Rugby vs Leinster Rugby

After the high of the Wasps match and the exaltation that followed, Leinster were brought back to earth with a bump last week in Toulouse.

Toulouse were just more up for the fight for the first twenty minutes and Leinster looked a little shell-shocked. They did recover well though to the point where they looked like a bonus point win for Leinster was the most likely outcome. But then Luke McGrath's pass was intercepted for a super team try and Leinster lacked composure when they looked to generate a final winning drive at the end.

Match Preview: Stade Toulousain v Leinster Rugby

by Jim O'Connor, 2018-10-20

Leinster were on fire last weekend as they demolished Wasps in style running in eight tries in front of a giddy RDS crowd.

The first half was a touch scrappy but Leinster did their now classic trick of scoring just before and after half time and from then on they were cruising as Wasps capitulated. Admittedly Wasps were missing some key men but there was still enough quality on the pitch to put up a better fight than that. However despite all the garlands thrown their way, Leo Cullen was quick to downplay expectations and focus on what his team needed to improve on ahead of Sunday's visit to Toulouse, a place Leinster have only won once in five attempts.

Match Preview: Leinster Rugby vs Wasps

Leinster start the defence of the Heineken Champions Cup in fine fettle.

They come in on the back of two excellent derby wins, overwhelming Connacht in Galway and then being able to rest several stars and still beat Munster at the Aviva Stadium last week. The short turnaround from that match was the reason the likes of Jonathan Sexton, Tadhg Furlong and the rest were given the day off and if Leinster win tomorrow too Leo Cullen will be feeling pretty pleased with himself.

Match Preview: Connacht Rugby vs Leinster Rugby

by Jim O'Connor, 2018-09-28

After a decent if relatively low key start to the season for Leinster, it starts to ramp up now.

First up are two tough inter-provincial derbies away to Connacht and at home to Munster before the visit of Wasps to the RDS and then a trip to Toulouse in the Heineken Cup (isn't it great that we can call it that again?). We've seen in the past where the results in these block of games can set the tone for the rest of the season. Leinster looked in fairly decent shape last week though. The first half was a fairly turgid affair but it was lit up by the superb movement and passing for the James Lowe try and Leinster played some nice stuff after that to win comfortably. However they will face a big rise in intensity when they take on Connacht in Galway tomorrow evening.
