It is almost two years since the ERC announced that its flagship event the Heineken cup final would be returning to Dublin for the first time in ten years. At the time of the announcement Leinster were champions of that competition for the second time in three years. A third championship followed in 2012 and the supporters began to dream of the ultimate three in a row in Dublin.

Typical! After four years of trying, Leinster finally get to the final of this competition. However not only are they away from home for the third game running, their final is directly clashing with the Amlin Cup Final. What's more, because of that clash, Sky aren't showing any coverage of it whatsoever, after they screened the last three finals live. So if Leinster do manage a win, there will be precious few witnesses to it.

Well now we know that, whatever happens, Leinster won't need to leave the RDS for the rest of the season. It makes a change from expensive end of season trips I guess. Three wins from the next three games will bring two trophies and make up at least partially for the early exit from the Heineken Cup. However that's easier said than done, especially in the Pro12 play-offs. Last Saturday's Amlin cup match turned out to be a handy hit-out against a Biarritz team who showed exactly why they are in the bottom four of the Top 14. On a wonderful sunny day, Leinster scored five tries for the second time running in the competition as they tore the one dimensional Basques apart and essentially had the game won by half-time. Like an old-school French team, once Biarritz had lost they set about settling a few scores and there were some nasty off the ball incidents and some embarrassingly childish moments from players who should know better. But it was an enjoyable game overall although there are much tougher tests coming up.

Match Preview: Leinster Rugby vs Biarritz Olympique

Leinster made their debut in the Amlin Challenge cup 3 weeks ago with a visit to Adams Park. The travelling support put lie to the rumour that Leinster fans don't care about this competition with a performance from the terrace reminiscent of days of old. Jordi Murphy joined the fans and indeed joined in with Molly Malone and I'm sure with the rousing rendition of Happy Birthday that the fans sang for birthday girl OLSC president Aisling O'Connor.
