Leinster Rugby (14) 31 - 0 (0) Border Reivers
Donnybrook, Dublin
Att: 6,000
Referee: Hugh Watkins (WRFU)
Saturday 5th May 2007

Saturday night, was an evening of goodbyes. Leinster were playing their final match at Donnybrook before a move to the RDS for next season. Several playing staff were making their last home appearance and for some spectators it will be the last time they see a Leinster shirt on Will Green, Guy Easterby, Owen Finegan and Reggie Corrigan who added another cap to his record haul. It would also mark the final occasion that Leinster played Borders before the region was wound up. Those in attendance were hoping that on a night of goodbyes Leinster wouldn't bid farewell to their title aspirations too.

In fact Leinster started brightly, and had fourteen points on the board in as many minutes. Contepomi crossed for the first, showing good strength to hold off the Border defence. Contepomi created the second feeding D'Arcy who raced through the flimsy Borders defence to score under the posts. It seemed that Leinster would have little trouble securing the four try bonus point they craved, but the remainder of the half was scoreless, with Leinster appearing keen to score the fourth before they had scored the third.

Borders appeared desperate not to finish scoreless and they put together some periods of enterprising play, on one occasion forcing a 5 metre scrum but Leinster managed to repel any attacks throughout the first half.

Within ten minutes of the restart Leinster had secured their third try. D'Arcy made some excellent ground through the midfield and the ball made its way to the wing where Jamie Heaslip who has been in fine try scoring form made his way over the try line.

With that try Leinster had half an hour to score the bonus point try however Leinster conspired to spend 25 of those minutes in fruitless endeavour. Eventually the watching crowd were put out of their misery and following a series of fumbles and apparent blind alleys, Leinster somehow rucked their way to the try line where Brian Blaney did the honours.

With the bonus point secure like buses another try came. Leinster snatched up a loose ball and Christian Warner stretched his legs to run in the fifth try of the night. The last act of the match was left to Gordon D'Arcy to send over the conversion.

Leinster made hard work of it, but eventually achieved the bonus point win. Leinster's destiny is in their own hands and they know that a bonus point victory next week in the Cardiff Arm's Park will see them better last years performance and win the Magners League.
